Broken Virgin

Slingshot + Water-Stained Glass = A whole lot of pissed off old people.

Vandals Shatter Virgin Mary

I've driven by this thing a number of times off of US19. They had around twenty or so chairs set up and, at just about any hour of the day, you could find between five and ten people just sitting and staring.

The Stain before vandalism:

Isn't there something in the bible about worshipping icons? Ah, nevermind...

I'm not one of the "I saw the Virgin Mary in the shape of the coffee grounds in the trash can" types but you have to admit that's pretty cool as she appears to be looking over at the crucifix.

BUT, if that really was the Blessed Mother in the glass and the glass shattered, what does that mean?

We've known the end of the world is nigh for quite some time.

This isn't news.

(Come on, who else is out there thinking, "She's grateful for the time off, she's waiting on line to see The Passion ..."

"There also is a 21-foot-tall wooden ``world- class crucifix'' that was placed near the Mary image in 1998, Weickert said."

I don't like that people are willing to scoff at such faith (because you would really have to be faithful to see a virgin in a mirror) and then shoot a water balloon at it.

But it was funny for some odd reason.

This used to be a plain old office building in Clearwater off of US 19 until a sprinkler head broke and showered the glass with "grey water" (recycled water). If you are at all aware of the unpleasant contents, not to mention the smell, of grey water, you'll know that it has the power to do just about anything to any substance. I don't think we should be surprised that it could make the Virgin Mary appear.

Soon after the incident, people began collecting outside the building to stare and The Shepherds of Christ bought it and renamed it "Our LAdy Mary of Clearwater" or something.

Shouldn't that have been "Our Lady of Greywater"?

I personally think it should be "ass water", as that is exactly what grey water smells like. Ugh, I hate living in an area plagued by periodic droughts.

The "greywater" put a coating on the glass that allows you to see the strain forces in the glass that were introduced by it's installation or building movement. It's a common scientific tecnique for measuring strain.
