Cool shots of your dogs, windhund. Were they former racers?

Yes. Pumpkin was a brood mama as well before we got her. Most of her kids are enjoying retirement now too.

How many years do they usually race?

Depends on how fast they are. They start racing at about 18 months of age. Some of them wash out immediately - they are slow (relatively speaking), or they don't care about chasing the lure. Others will race for several years - most tracks have a requirement that a dog must retire if it reaches 6 years of age, but for a dog that old to still be racing is a rarity. Kind of like human athletes - it's not common to see a professional athlete over the age of 40 or so. Also, some get hurt. Pumpkin broke her hock (which is actually a collection of small bones in the rear leg), and she couldn't race anymore after that. Doesn't keep her from zorching around the yard at alarming speeds, but her career was over.

Thank you, windhund. Yeah, kind of like retired hookers, they still do it for fun.

I love looking at all your beautiful creatures. I had to give my cats back to my ex when I moved from my apartment into a small house. I miss having pets...but I sure do have some nice plants now!

I really want a pet cow but I don't think my municipality would approve. Of course, where I live maybe no one would notice.:p

Pumpkin-doggie reminds me of Santa's Little Helper! So cute! All the pets are cute, cute, cute how lucky we all are to have the furry critters in our lives.

Wow, that's a bunch of cats. I love my cats, although today, I had to briefly love my youngest, Anu, just a little less.

We're painting trim. Anu found some paint somewhere...and tracked it all over the wood floors, which we are *not* redoing. I was not amused.

Squirrely-Jo is the guilty party, Marmalade was an innocent bystander...
