Can we stop talking about friggin' immigration?

Just for a little while? Please? All it does is bring out the ugly, and I'm finding it very depressing.

Consider the source, blue.

That's what I do with about 2/3 of the threads here. Works like a charm.

There are plenty of threads I don't care for. Don't like 'em, don't read 'em.

I didn't see it anything either. Will I be offended? Is it one of those "all the immigrants are taking our jobs" thing? "make it harder for them"? the sort where people then realize that I'm one and generally say "oh no we don't mean you... just all the others that aren't quite so much like us"?

or is it an all-encompassing one. do I get equal discrimination?

:p

ignore it. ignore the whole forum, it's easy to do. Or for fun, dip in occassionaly and then refuse the demands for the justification of your POV like cicero does, or wait about 3 years before you go back to see what effect it had, like I do

To be fair, how many people do you hear actually say they are against immigrants? I'm in Arizona and I don't even hear that here. I hear an awful lot of people complaining about illegal immigrants, but that is different.

Exactly lookout. I have no problem increasing the amount of legal immigrants we allow in, but I get really upset about ILLEGALs. I know people who have been affected because of it. (jobs, you know?)

Being fair, I hear people say shit about immigrants all the time. But what they really mean is illegals. One regular offender here is a local radio DJ who's parents are Irish FFS. You see less of it on the cellar because people are a little more carefiul with the written word and are generally smarter than your average bear, but "immigrant" is one of those words that invokes a knee-jerk reaction. Look how you've all jumped in to "defend" yourselves on Blue's perfectly legitimate nothingland thread. you could have just ignored it, but you know at some level you're guilty too, or you wouldn't be so touchy

The idea that it's only about illegal immigrants is a little disingenuous. If the only concern is about following the law, then where are all the threads against smoking pot, pirating music, breaking traffic laws, etc.?

There are other reasons that the immigrant/illegal immigrant debates are so hot. It's not about people breaking the law. It's about us versus them.
