Here comes Bertha - a but sister

Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay
Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura
Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy
Vicky, and Wilfred

Arthur was a surprise squall that went the wrong way until it was given a name - some respect. Then nothing until Bertha.

This one is far enough south to be a threat to east cost US. Butt ... predications say it will stay well off that coast on Tuesday.

Some pictures demonstrate how well formed this storm has been. Meanwhile the American Pacific coast is now having its ninth storm for the year. Butt no strikes.

Could this be Cristobal? Does any music exist for her? We should know soon since it is on track for the East Coast US.

Meanwhile, the eastern Pacific (ie west coast) has already seen 13 topically storms. But then America tends to be more creative there.

After this is "Hello Dolly".

And how did the name of Cristóbal Colón ever become Christopher Columbus in English?

Columbus' name in English is actually an anglicized version of the Columbus birth name. According to most accounts, Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, as Cristoforo Colombo, which is obviously much more similar to the English version than is the Spanish one.

This was a marching cadence song (with many variations) way back when:

Columbo

In fourteen hundred and ninety-two
A sailor from Bordilli
Was walking down the streets of Spain
A-yankin' his tamale

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, masturbating, son of a bitch
Columbo

He walked right up to the Queen of Spain
And asked for ships and cargo
He said, "I'll be a son-of-a-gun if I don't bring back Chicago"

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, fornicating, son of a bitch
Columbo

Said Isabelle to Ferdinand
His plan sounds mighty hazy
Said Ferdinand to Isabelle
I think the fucker's crazy

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, calculating, son of a bitch
Columbo

The queen she gave him 3 broad ships
They all were triple deckers
The Queen she waved her handkerchief
Columbo waved his pecker

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, masturbating, son of a bitch
Columbo

For forty days and forty nights
They sailed the broad Atlantic
If it wasn't for the sheep on board
The crew, they would have panicked

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, fornicating, son of a bitch
Columbo

The first mate yes the first mate
My he was a big'un
He wrapped it twice around the mast
And used the rest for riggin'

The second mate yes the second mate
Loved him like a brother
Took him down below the deck
And they cornholed one another

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, observating [sic], son of a bitch
Columbo

The cabin boy, the cabin boy
My he was a nipper
Lined his ass with shards of glass
And circumcised the skipper

He said the world was round-o
He said it could be found-o
That hypothetical, reciprocating, son of a bitch
Columbo

Arizona is suffering record rains now that Nobert has made desert fall. That is the 14th Tropical Storm for the west coast. East coast lags again with only four.

A pity storm Norbert couldn't have brought its precip farther west than it did. Palm Springs and surroundings got some inches, and fast. This county... busy layers of strato-cumulus, and that was about it. Local whiffs of drizzle; we could smell where it had sprinkled.

Arizona really can't be said to "suffer" when it rains, nor even when it floods. Flash flooding is how southern Arizonans know there's been a proper rain, which may amount to half a given year's precip anyway.

Atlantic storm season just had its statistical peak week, too. Been a very quiet season.
