The Oscars

scroll down to photo gallery.

Apparently Diane Keaton is still wearing her old tux and hat costume. Although she looks good for 60ish.

I thought the gowns were fairly sleek and simple. Nothing too outlandish.

Of course Saun Penn had to take a jab at GW. I wonder what he'ddo for a living if he wasn't an actor? Sell magazines.

who gives a toss - pack of posers patting themselves on the back for doing nothing and getting a fortune for it. I work damn hard all day EVERY DAY and I can't afford dresses like that not even on hire. These actors do piss all except look good and pose. if you've got a good body and take your clothes off you get paid a fortune. I think it's time we thought about what REAL people look like not the plastic ones.

With the exception of the opening film montage with Billy Crystal, I sat through the Oscars last night in a kind of bored silence.

Oh, I liked the Dead Guy Montage. I consider that one of the more important highlights every year.

I did like the one point that Sean Penn made about there being no "best" actor.

They *were* sort of flat, weren't they? Strange, because the performances and films, even the music, was overall of very high quality this past year. My wife thinks that it is because everyone knew who was going to win (LOTR, Sean Penn, Charlize Theron), so there was no anticipation to speak of.

I, too, get into the tributes to the performers who have crossed over. So many of the absolute cream of the crop last year...Hepburn, Peck, Hope, O'Connor. With the magick of film, I can still enjoy their gifts far into the future, though.

I don't think she won an Oscar or got paid for looking good in this movie.

Maybe not for looking good, but she probably still got paid a bit.

Oh I have no doubt she got paid, and now that she has won an Oscar I have no doubt that her asking price per movie just went up by at least a few million. My point is simply that she was ugly in that movie, and that not all actors get paid to sit there and look pretty.

Some get paid to sit there and look ugly.

Well, yes. It's a visual medium with which people make careers. Someone is getting the money you spend to look at people. Or, nowadays, to look at drawings and models of people and their fish.

I'm feeling argumentative today.

Unfairly Lauded: Lord of the Rings, editing. If you've seen the film, you know what I mean.

Robbed: Lord of the Rings, not nominated for cinematography? What were they smoking?

Unfairly Lauded: _Lost in Translation_. For anything at all. Is it too much to ask that a movie have a plot? A resolution?

One thing about LOTR editing - Peter Jackson has been clever enough to release DVDs that show exactly what editing was done for the theatrical release. The editing is less visible for films that don't come out with two versions.
