Unhappy Patrick Swayze 'has five weeks to live'

Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been given just five weeks to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a leading US tabloid has reported.

The National Enquirer reported Swayze was diagnosed in late January, and the cancer has spread to other parts of his body.

Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University's cancer centre with his wife Lisa Niemi for chemotherapy treatments, the Enquirer reported.

An insider said: "He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure.

"It's time to start praying for a miracle."

The actor, who made a name for himself in Dirty Dancing and has also starred in Ghost, Point Break and Donnie Darko, is on a liquid diet as he can't keep solids down.

Calls made by Foxnews.com to Swayze's reps were not returned, and a representative for the actor told Bang! Showbiz: "I don't know anything about this, I'll have to get back to you with more details."

A "very good source" reportedly told blogger Perez Hilton that Swayze had seemed fine.

"Patrick has been at rehearsals for a new cheerleading movie at Century City studio frequently lately, and he definitely does not look like he has five more weeks of life left.

"I'm not sure of his medical condition(s), but if he is gravely ill, he is hiding it very well," the source said.

Sufferers of pancreatic cancer typically have a survival rate of less than five per cent, but if the cancer has spread to Swayze's other vital organs he has an even lower chance of beating the disease.

One day you're walkin' around, rich, thin, good-looking; next day-BAM!-you've got five weeks to live.

What a world.

Reuters Says:

Patrick has a very limited amount of disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

Maybe the Enquirer was just pulling one of those "we never SAID..." type of things. Technically, he does have 5 weeks to live. And also probably more than that, too.

"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."

Hope he's ok, but gotta say, I can't think of one of his movies I liked. At all. Still, that's neither here nor there, and it's sad if he's sick.

I busted out laughing in the theater, when everyone else was snifflling. I thought it was tripe. I may be the only person on earth, but I did. And I can cry at a movie like no other!

I first heard this today on the local news radio. However, their report said that he was responding well to treatment.

Gods help me, I think Swayze is terrific. And Red Dawn is *not* his greatest film. "To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything - Julie Newmar" is.

Oh yeah! Dirty Dancing was of course a completely iconic movie of my youth, but I totally forgot about To Wong Foo. He was awesome in that.

He played the hard-nosed green (newbie) instructor in 'Uncommon Valor'. Great flick! 'Point Break' was ok.
