The bowl is upside down. It wouldn't hold air that way.

This is why we don't permit fish to become pet owners!

It fills me with an overwhelming desire to push her hair back before it gets in her drink.

It's the mom hormones kicking in. Or you're a virgo.

*drools*

I absolutely love Escher! My favourites are Villa Belvedere (I think it's called that) and Waterfall though.

The rim is round which means it's not against the wall, which means the person in behind and not in the bowl, which makes your points moot.

The rim appears elliptical; because, the bowl is canted towards the viewer to offset the weight of the man leaning against the inside of the bowl in the opposite direction.

The bowl isn't against a wall: it's against a mirror. This is why you don't see any fish through the bowl. Some of the fish are viewed directly; but, some of them are just reflections in the mirror. Fish think it's funny to confuse their pets that way.

The "window" the man is looking "through" is a reflection of a picture the fish have put on an opposite wall. The scene never changes, the clouds don't move. Fish like to torment their pets by giving them false hopes of escape.

It's disconcerting that you didn't recognize this trick done with bowl and mirror. It's a fish classic. You seem to be in denial! Have you ever been abducted by fish? I'm sure you'll talk about it when you're ready.

The Escher drawing is cool. How can I send it to someone?

About the fish bowl.....

I respectfully think .....it's just surrealist art and it is up to the viewer to decide what it is to them although I am pleased to see it spurred discussion.
