Aug 15th, 2017: Trailer Park

Trailer parks are all over the country, but many municipalities keep them out or banish them to the fringes of their jurisdiction.
The stigma of being occupied by trailer trash, being a descended from hobo camps, full of ne’er-do-wells and lowlifes, persists.
Plus they're people who send a lot of kids to school without paying their fair share of taxes.
It’s true in many cases, but there are a lot of trailer parks filled with retirees, weekend-get-awayers, and good people who don’t
want the burden of a house nor confinement of an apartment. No trailer trash in Palm Springs, CA.

Quote:
New York photographer Jeffrey Milstein became fascinated with trailerparks through film: "When I was about 12 years old, I had gone to a Saturday matinee at the Del Mar movie theater in Los Angeles, and for 15 cents watched the movie The Long, Long Trailer, starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz," he recalls. "For me, a third star was the building in the title, a big, yellow, metal travel trailer." Over a half-century later, that fascination has come full circle in a new book, Small Dreams: 50 Palm Springs Trailer Homes (Schiffer, $15), which chronicles the caravans of the Blue Skies trailer park in Rancho Mirage, California, founded by iconic singer Bing Crosby in 1955, and other nearby trailer parks.

Some have just added useful extensions and embellishments, but others have gone to great lengths to give their home a blurred
lineage. People going by might not realize there is a trailer at the core…............if it wasn’t in a trailer park.
