Who's crazier: the wife's mom, or the husband's?

So, you and your MIL don't get along. But your spouse loves your mom. Right?

Well, I've never said anything bad about my MIL to my wife, and she's never said anything bad about my mom to me. But, she has said her mom drives her crazy (and I secretly agree) but I've never said anything bad about my mom.

Got it? Her mom is the problem. But she means well.

Both our moms are dead. But when they were alive...well, they were both pretty nice.

My FIL, on the other hand....

My wife will be the first to admit that her mother is an evil bitch who has caused many of the problems her daughters have had. I smile and nod. My mom is nuts, but not evil. We both agree on that.

My mom is crazier, but she's pretty aware of it and makes a point not to push her weirdness on other people, while his mom is less crazy but oblivious to her own behavior. So in the end, his is more irritating IMHO.

My mom isn't crazy, just lazy. Not involved in my life really, or my daughters unfortunately. If I don't call and essentially beg her to come down to see her granddaughter, I don't think she ever would. We just really have never been that close, and after my dad died, it actually got worse.

My in laws are actually really great. They even hosted my college graduation party when I got my bachelor's, and Red and I were only just dating. They have been more like the parents I wished I had. Red has a far better relationship with his family than I do with mine. My MIL doesn't butt in or spout off (at least to me) about my parenting, or my housekeeping, or my career. If I ask her opinion or advice, I can usually count on pretty solid info, or a flat out "you've got to figure it out on your own." She uses the silent treatment though when she is pissed off, so actually no news might not always be good news if YKWIM.

I'm not just saying this because Red might read it either. We have had multiple discussions about what I don't like about my mom, and how I can not turn into her (too badly anyway)

My mom passed on years ago, but my MIL is a nutter.

My wife agrees. She's told me some of the crazy things she has done...

Anorexic...still eats like a bird. No pork (dunno why) and is still a bit of a slut.

Everything had to be "sexy" when my wife was young. Tell that to a fat girl. Obesity runs strong in their family.

Takes a week to eat a candy bar. True.

Tried every drug/diet to get Mary to lose weight. May have fucked up her system in the process. Even demanded prescriptions of doctors against their better judgment. It's a wonder Mary isn't more screwed up than she already is.

There is tons more but I'd be violating her privacy too much.

MIL is nuts, for sure. SIL is right behind her.

Brian

My mother...by a mile (or a hundred).

His mother and his step-mother are adorable.

My MIL died last Feb. When she was alive she was not involved much in our lives or our kids, but she depended on us for lots of other things and support, sort of a one way street. We still loved her in a arms lenght kinda way.

My mom is nuttier than hell. She is in a Assisted living home in Okla. She has been nutty all her life. My brother grew pot in his room when I was a kid and she would come in an water it for him. She never knew what it was but she took care of it til he harvested it. It had great big buds on it and he had taken out all the male plants so you could imagine what it looked like. A bonsi sex starved female pot plant. Yea, she was pretty nutty.
