July 16th, 2019 : Albino Wood Turtles

Quote:
Albino Wood Turtles are one of the rarest Turtle Morphs in the world. They are also very easy turtles to keep in captivity, making them a great species for displays. There are three different species of Albino Wood Turtles being kept in captivity. Albinoturtles.com is working with two of them, and we are only a couple years away from producing the first captive produced Albino Wood Turtles.

This bothers me. Albinos whether 2 legged, 4 legged, or no legged, have a tough row to hoe.
Life is extra difficult for those Mother Nature handicapped with Albinism. These people are
deliberately breeding them, over a dozen different kinds. Why, for money of course.
I didn’t see any prices but would guess they’re being sold as rare and exotic pets.
Turtles live a long time so when Jody and Buffy go off to college Mom gets to care for them...
or turn them loose. Bad juju.

Oh, and they ship fedex overnight, that's enough to make me walk away, but that's because
fedex has screwed me repeatedly. Wednesday they were screwing someone else by leaving
their box on my porch. I let them know and they came for it Saturday afternoon.

If your turtle doesn't arrive alive, they'll replace it free. I should hope so.
But you have to pay shipping... What?

Baby turtles were once common prizes at carnivals and such.
I don't think one in a thousand made it a year and a Google search says the practice is now illegal in 50 states.
A whole bunch of other animals still can be offered, including fish, iguanas and rabbits.

Digging into the link finally produced a $1500 price for one of these doomed reptiles.

I always wondered about that--the exotic pet store used to have turtles for sale, but with a big sign that said they were only for scientific research and educational purposes.

Educational is pretty broad. Come to think of it so is Scientific Research.
At $1500 they're definitely in Jody & Buffy territory.
