Ok so its 3am est & this is lumber jim's girlfriend. I'm having a serious issue for anyone who has owned cats before. This is making me cry & i cant run this by jim b/c he has to work early tom. All three of the cats were doing quite well, no fighting, just sniffing for the last three nights. New kitten sprayed three times total in the beginning, i bought comfortzone & he hasnt sprayed since. Four days no spraying. Earlier tonight my baby boy chase, the big maine coon who is my #1 i think got cornered & scared which ended in new kitty taking a hair full bite out of his back. New kitty has been shying away from/scared of chase since that incident. I put together a cat tree which i thought would ease any tension b/c chase could get up high & not be bothered. I put chase on it on a high perch, he was fine, i put kitten about three levels down, i guess something snapped in kitten. He started going after chase, i intervened. He literally tore my arm up. My wrist is 2x its normal size. I dont get swollen from cat scratches. I will say hes been tested for rabies, leukemia, hiv. All neg. But my arm swelled to 2x its normal size. He also got my leg & ripped it up pretty bad where i was literally dripping blood on the floor. Can i ask for just the other cat owners to reply to this b/c i am sure there are many other responses that i will not be happy w hearing. If i take ths kitten to the spca & actually tell them what happened, thell kill him. I cannot do that. I feel like i should be able to rehabilitate this cat & give him the love he deserves and make him a good house cat. He really is a sweetie. He has it in him. I just dont know what to do do i try to stick it out at the expense of my other cats or do i accept defeat? What can i do? This was my weekend of letting kitten out with us for the whole night. Is that even possible now? I really need some help! Thank you to anyone who gives me any advice!!

Kitten has been back in the finished basement which is his "safe place" while i cleaned up. Chase seems fine. i guess ill let hm out & try again? I just dont know whether to keep trying? I feel he was dropped off in our neighborhood for spraying, thinking that someone else would pick him up (enter me, the bleeding heart). Please, what do i do? Has anyone dealt witn this before?

Not with the spraying, but with the fighting - yes.
I had to leave a cat in London because I could not move two fighting cats back to my parents' house. I still feel guilty about that - Hely was a gorgeous cat who deserved better than to form a bond with me and then get shunted off to another home.

But Diz is a bully. He is jealous and cannot bear another cat in the house.
He terrorises my parents' cat, Mia. He is all sound and fury and on the odd occasion she stands her ground and swipes at him, he stalks off perturbed. But we have to have separate cat shifts so that they don't come together. The only time they can be in the same place at the same time is in the summer, in the garden. Mia roams all around the neighbours' gardens but Diz will not leave ours. So at the worst he will chase her to a fence and she'll be up and over.

I seem to remember reading that if cats don't settle in six weeks then they never will.
But that's going to be a long six weeks of you are getting blooded.

Are you sure the SPCA will put him down?
Many people are interested in adopting single cats ie for a one pet family.
Do you have a shelter with a non-euthanising policy?

Not saying get rid of him, just suggesting possibilities.

Glad I am not back in your position having to choose between cats.
My heart goes out to you.
Good luck.

Hi Miss Helm-friend!

How are your wounds? If swelling persists for four hours, consult a doctor.
Seriously, as a cat owner, I assume you've been scratched plenty, and not had a reaction. That is kind of strange. Monitor closely.

Psst, Jim ... if she starts miaowing ... be afraid.

I've been a cat-owner often, but I have to say that introducing an adult cat into a situation with two other adult cats is outside my experience. We're brought kittens in, but they obviously fit in at the bottom of the social structure. Maybe some cat psychology is needed.

I've known two ginger cats. One, ginger /white like yours, had a bit of a mean streak but learned to not mess with the humans. The other, a pure ginger who belonged to a friend of mine, would snap from demanding very affectionate cuddles to full on attack with bite+claw+claw+rake+rake in the blink of an eye. Drew blood from me on two occasions. After considerable efforts (and nasty scratches on their daughter) my friend had to make the hard decision. The SPCA took the cat and said they would offer him for adoption for one week, and then euthanise him, but wouldn't tell my friend what had happened, either way.

Don't race for that option, of course, and now that you've had him snipped he might settle down. See what you can find about cat social psychology.
Come to think of it, New cat has had a pretty rough few months. Not surprising he's having trouble adjusting.

I would strongly advise seeing if there are any animal behaviourists in your area. Or go onto a cat specialist forum and ask if any of them can advise.

Good luck with it.
