Besides, nowhere allows rice anymore. Sometimes it's birdseed or bubbles, most often it's sparklers.

And the rice being bad because it makes birds explode is complete bullshit, but once it hit the internet the lie caught fire. I suspect the flames were fanned by the NAJ&C*.

The complaint isn't that it's bad for the birds; it's the mess that no one wants to clean up. Most big churches and wedding venues are doing a minimum of three to four weddings a week in the off-season, more than one a day in the spring. That's a lot of rice, and it attracts vermin.

That would be no different for birdseed, or the biodegradable confetti, that replaced rice. If the venue supplied some of those starving asian children Mom always harped about, rice wouldn't be a problem. I suppose it's easier to clean up an occasional incinerated body from sparklers setting off fancy dresses.



As for attracting vermin, I doubt anything will keep mother-in-laws away.
