At peace

Being that this has been a busy, crazy week at work, I've been thinking about things that made me feel calm and at peace with everything.

The best, most calm day for me was the first morning on a cruise in Alaska.
We were on a small 25 room catamaran-type ship. It was late May. I woke up at 3am. I went up on the top deck and had the place all to myself. The sun was still out since in May it's out about 22 hours a day in AK.
The ship had pulled into a small cove for the night. There was a mother whale and her calf near the entrance to the cove. Some animals were just starting to move around in the woods nearby and since it was so quiet, you could hear everything. I just sat there for 2 hours and enjoyed being by myself, thinking about nothing.
That memory still calms me down whenever things get crazy.

How about you all? What memory to you call up when you need to put a smile on your face and slow yourself down?

Sitting around a campfire in the mountains with friends under a starry, ultra-black sky, with a little sippin' whiskey and several hiking miles under my belt. Ahhhh.....

At some point, almost every night, I visualize playing drumbeats in my head, in order to calm my mind enough to fall asleep.

sitting on a small brown blanket at the bottom of a canyon in new mexico. just about dusk. had been camped there for about a week, and was in the groove of gathering firewood, hiking, exploring by day. it was crystal clear, serene, and i was physically spent. all my chores were done, dinner was cooking, and i was with jinx and a couple other good friends. i sat alone on that blanket and reflected on ow peaceful it was for about 20 minutes. i'm there right now. thanks, shels

Snuggling with my partner under the blankets at his house in his huge sleigh bed. He has his glasses on and is reading to me from a book. His new kitten is playing at our feet and the glow of the lamp makes things warm and cozy. He is a 'mans man' funny outgoing and loud so this soft moment is made even more wonderfully pleasant and peaceful and touches my heart deeply.
