If you get great SAT scores paired with good-enough grades (admissions officers understand that sometimes the brilliant don't want to be bothered with schoolwork below their level, and the valedictorian often isn't the brightest kid at the school,) there are going to be several good schools that want to give your child a completely free ride. The trick is, it depends on who needs to recruit what type of student that year to fill out which programs, and you have to be flexible rather than starting out with your heart deadset on one particular school. But I hear sometimes it's hard to convince teenagers to be flexible.

When I was trying out my potential new gym yesterday, I met one of the moms from Hebe's winter swim team in the locker room. She told me that she was so glad that Hebe and another high school swimmer came back to swim meets with the younger kids once their swim season was over, because they showed the little ones what was possible, and were also so nice and friendly to them it really gave her daughter a desire to be just like them (they are both breaststrokers, as is her daughter). She called my daughter a "wonderful role model"! No-one ever called me that -maybe the spell is broken! the fruit can fall away from the tree.

That is stellar.

Congrats, Monster. That's a telling story right there.

I suspect you were looked up to more than you know. We seldom know the ripples we make as we move through life.

Living through my kids accomplishments at the present ...

My daughter will graduate from college this spring. She is currently doing her student teaching.
Her first quarter review was yesterday from her classroom supervisor.

"She is ALWAYS prepared. She is quietly confident and always treats the students with respect...
She exudes professionalism in all areas ... Excellent Job!
She has exceeded my expectations in all areas. It is obvious she is ready for her own classroom."

Amazing doesn't quite cover it. She totally rocked this! I'm incredibly proud of her!
Oh and we got her final Praxis grades back yesterday as well. She passed ALL of them on the first try -
Every one - even the one which will allow her to teach ANY grade K-12.

Vicarious pleasures are sometimes put down, but when it comes to kids (and grandkids) they can't be beat.

Be sure to tell HER... preferably in front of others.

Thanks Lamp. I have and I do - repeatedly.
I gotta be careful though as son1 is still in college and takes academics more as I did.
which means he is struggling. He has Anatomy, Chemistry AND Physics this semester. Next week he has tests in all three classes.
OMFG - I just hope he survives.

Max has inherited his fathers love of fishing. Not sure if it's really nature. Might have more to do with nurture, but who knows.

Anyway, he's got his head in the paper with a whiting he caught last weekend for a fishing competition he participated in.
