My new addition, Hely.

She was left behind when her owners moved in January.
She's lived in the same block of flats since then, scavenging from bins and sheltering in the underground carpark.
A couple next door to the empty flat were allowing her in for a couple of hours in the evening, but the man wouldn't allow the woman to feed her because he thought she belonged to someone. He also wouldn't allow her to stay in overnight.

So she is rail thin - you can feel all her bones. She was only in the rescue centre for 4 days, so hasn't had time to put the weight on yet. That's my job.

She's very friendly, followed me round the house within an hour of coming home. We have a couple of stroking sessions last night, and she made it up onto the bed when Diz was downstairs. Mostly she hid under the bed though. Diz is very unsure of her so far - lots of growling and yowling, but I expected that. No fighting or biting. I have high hopes.

The shaved patch is obviously where they neutered her.
Brits - she looks so much like Bianca from Eastenders... I was tempted...

Oh she's adorable Sundae. She looks a proper little princess, despite her time sleeping rough!

I can understand and apreciate that logic, but didn't the gradual appearance of her ribs kind of give the game away on that?

From the sounds of it he just wasn't a cat lover and didn't want his GF getting too attached.

Poor baby - she's going to get plenty of love to help her forget being lost and starving I can promise you.

Good job, SG. Someone needs to take care of critters like her. She is beautiful, too.

I like cats. I owned one when I was very little and don't remember what it was like before we had to give her away.

What are they like? Similar to dogs?

Aw Bullitt! What a sweetie.
My catnip (cat mint) is doing very well in the containers in my garden.
I'm hoping it will flower soon so that it pretties up the yard as well as being there for the cats.

They pretty much ignore it at present, but then someone told me recently that cats don't develop a yen for it until they are a couple of years old. Not sure I believe that, as diz went mad for the catnip toy I bought them last year. Still, it's given it a chance to grow, that's the main thing.

Fresh are you serious? You might be if you don't know anyone with cats I suppose.
My cats have many dog-like qualities. Diz always wants to be in the same room with me, comes when called, loves attention and demands to be played with. He wants to "help" with everything I do from going to the toilet to going online. Hely is already shaping up to be quite similar - curious, people focused and friendly.

My cats are not typical at all!

I read 6 months-ish for the catnip thing. Surprised the govt haven't interfered, set an age linit and taxed it to hell...

Catnip and catmint aren't the same, I thought?

Bailey

Just a quick post to report that our dear Bailey died last month.
He got suddenly ill over the weekend, and by Monday morning he was gone. Kitsune and I think it was probably something like kidney failure.
I hope he's having a nice time in hedgehog heaven.

I'm so sorry Chocolatl, and Kitsune.

It's good to have you back, despite this very sad news.
