My personal theory is that you need to go for compatibility as much as for attraction.

So here's the meet cute story for Mrs. Z and me.

At the time I worked for a large company in St. Louis. On this particular Friday, there was an informal department event to be held at one of the local bars. My friend, Terri, from our department had been promoted and liquid refreshment was enjoyed by all.

While I was standing around talking to Terri, she said, "Oh look. There's Steve (another friend from the department) talking to some people from the community relations team." So I turn my head to look in that direction. Not only did I see Steve, but I saw a young lady standing next to him with big brown eyes. She had fairly obviously been watching me. As quick as I notice, she snaps her head down to look at her beer. Busted.

So I excused myself from Terri, walked over to Steve and asked to be introduced. You know the old movies where two people look into each other's eyes and everything else fades into a mist? It was exactly like that. We talked for hours without interruption. You'd never know there were dozens of other people in the bar. I asked for her number and the rest is history.

Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger,
you may see a stranger
Across a crowded room
And somehow you know,
You know even then
That somewhere you'll see her
Again and again.

Nice.

A guy on the radio morning show, when they announce a big anniversary, always says "ALG! Ain't Love Grand?"

I, too, missed it.

Congrats Pete and Mrs. Z. Good to know that sort of stuff is out there.
