Paper planes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sei-...C813CD&index=0

This is a tune by Sri-Lankan rapper M.I.A.
There's a lot of debate on whats actually wrong with the tune.
On first listen one would say that it promotes violence.
Most assume its about weed.
Gangs hear the tune and associate the song with their lives in da hood.
The song is #4 in the US charts, its the fastest climbing tune in the UK charts this week.
A lot of people are looking into the lyrics and saying she's a terrorist.

Quote:
I fly like paper get high like planes
If you catch me at the border I got visas in my name
If you come around here I'll make em all day
I'll get one done in a second if you wait (x2

Sometimes I think sitting on trains
Every step I get till I'm clocking that game
Everyone's a winner, we're making our fame
Bonafide hustler making my name (x2

All I wanna do is
[ gun shots ]
And a
[load up, ka-ching]
And take your money (x4

Pirate skulls and bones
Sticks and stones and weed and bombs
Running when we hit em
A little poison for the system (x2

No one on the corner had swagger like us
Hit me on my banner pre paid wireless
We pack and deliver like UPS trucks
Already going haul
Just pumping that gas (x2

All I wanna do is
[gun shots]
And a
[load up, ka-ching]
And take your money (x4

M.I.A.
A third world democracy
Yeah I got more records than the KGB
So uh, no funny business
You already are

Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go (x2

All I wanna do is
[gun shots]
And a
[load up, ka-ching]
And take your money (x4)
Facts: she is a London girl with Sri-Lankan blood, a Tamil.
Her Father belongs to a (So-called) Terrorist organization in Sri-Lanka the LTTE(Liberation Tamil Tigers of Elam).
She was not permited entry into the US for about a year based on her fathers history(and present).

Part of the lyrics do kind of support the Sri-Lankan (LTTE)

IMO, the song is genius, tapping into the cash with this catchy tune.
Despite the crack-whore-ish style of singing, I love it, whatever the true meanings behind the song are.

There will always be terrorism and we will always be a target. And now its commercialized. Thats surreal.

Personally, I didn't know what the fuck I was hearing at first, but after I heard it a few times, I downloaded it, and now I kick it around now and then. Good tune. Not one that my friends would say I listen to, but I tend to have the scope for it to be on my playlist.

M.I.A. has a rep for being subversive, like many other singers before her.

Whenever I encounter brouhaha over song lyrics, I remember John Lennon, and his attitude, which was, no you berks, the lyrics don't always mean anything, and quite obsessing over it! (no doubt an extremely inaccurate paraphrase)
