David Spade voicemail to Todd Glass

At age 48, Todd Glass announced that he was gay on the Marc Maron WTF podcast. But he had been unable to tell Spade, with whom he had been working. On getting the "news", Spade calls him and leaves him this voicemail.

I have no idea who either of these people are.
I just know that the man talking is a tool.

What an idiot.

I mostly liked David Spade, but this makes him look like such an incredible jerk, I don't know if I can watch his stuff any more.

That is an outstanding reaction!

They are both comics and long-time friends. Spade, who is talking, is an excellent comic actor, specializing in sarcasm. Spade has known that Glass was gay for years, but they never talked about it. Now... you'll get double the pleasure out of this by listening to it again, after knowing what you now know!

I just finished listening and I'm thinking he is kidding.
I really hope I'm right...

ETA - Oh crap - just saw UT's post. Well then that makes me feel better...

No no, it just goes to show what a great comic actor he is. It's only a voicemail, but he completely commits to the bit, and improvises the whole two minutes. Once you know he's kidding, it converts and becomes hilarious.

Well, I'm glad I can still like him, because he comes off sounding terrible there.

It gets even funnier when you realize that David Spade has hinted in interviews that he may be bisexual himself.

He's totally joking, in case noone got it by the time he got to the "do you know anyone black? we can all go on TV together" part. He's actually very nice, in person, according to Pooka who met him in NYC. I think UT is testing our humor-meters. Without knowing the history, this one is pretty subtle.

Knee jerks, Flint.

Like you can't tell from second 1 that it's a joke.

I thought excessive sarcasm only didn't work online.
