Jan 14th, 2019: Itty Bitty Library

When a 110 year old Idaho Cottonwood tree was cut, the stump inspired a Coeur d’Alene librarian to build her own Little Free Library.

Quote:
Little Free Library is a nonprofit that fosters a love of reading and community by encouraging book exchanges. There are more than 75,000 registered Little Free Libraries in 88 countries around the world, each with their own unique character.

Quote:
No detail was spared in the creation of this “Little Tree Library,” which includes stone steps, a glass door, and warm interior and exterior lighting that provides a welcoming glow. Even in the small details, the project maintains its literary purpose. Just above the doorway, dentils in the form of miniature books recall some of the great classics like Call of the Wild and The Grapes of Wrath.

Quote:
Even if you can’t make it to Coeur d’Alene, chances are you have a Little Free Library nearby. The nonprofit’s Instagram shows off some of the unique libraries that exist around the world and, via their map, it’s possible to see the library closest to your location. Want to start your own Little Free Library? The organization has plenty of tips on how to build your own and it even sells pre-fabricated kits.

So the noble Cottonwood tree, growing on this spot since Idaho was a teenager, is drawn and quartered for unspecified transgressions.
Now the stump, instead of being firewood like the rest of the tree, is humiliated as a display case for the processed entrails of it’s kin and kind.
Oh the treemanity.

We have a bunch of those around here. When walking past them, I have often stopped to see what's inside, and it's always a bunch of random crap you would never want to read.

A real library actually stands a chance of having a book you would want, but these are basically not practical.

I liked the idea of them when they first started popping up, but now I wonder about them. How about little free closets where you put out old clothes? At least a homeless person would be able to use clothes, if they were practical. Like socks.

They should make sock boxes instead of little free libraries.

Hence, 'free'.

Also, grab something you think you won't like and try it. Ya might like it. I do that occasionally.

What have you put in there that you think others would want to read?

Exactly. Nobody wants to read my books. I don't want to read anyone else's books.

A real library will have books for everyone, and they are free.

I think I will put some books in the free library a couple of streets over. I'm trying to thin the heard.

Kinda.

Paying the tax anyway, might as well use the library.

If you have a library available, not everyone does. Through lack of transportation, or time clash, not everyone can easily get to a library to get a book then get there again to return it in a timely manner.

Now that's bullshit. You have a crystal ball that tells you who will visit and what they will/won't read? Does the same ball or a different one tell you that nobody will have anything you want to read? Or is it they won't part with anything you want to read?
