Nov 13th, 2016: Buick Wildcat

The 50's were heady times, the '54 Buick Wildcat...

All we had to worry about is a nuke wiping us out under our desk.

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la,
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

OMG
I almost want that more than an Aston Martin.
For my experienced-driver husband/ partner/ whatever to drive. I'd be too scared to, as the fastest car I've ever had was a 1.4l Peugeot.

And I'm not being gender specific either. I'd well trust Limey to drive this across the States, with me in the passenger seat, hair tied up and sunglasses on. I may not trust her on Arran with this, but that's the roads, not the driver.

It's even more amazing when I think about the dies they had to make perfectly, sculpturally, without automated milling machines. That they then mashed together with sheetmetal between them to get That, without die seams, and tooling marks.

Amazing.

Being a one off show car I'd assume it was mostly hand formed. I'll bet a laser scan would show it's asymmetrical.

What Bruce said.

I'll bet, for the most part, hand-formed.

What? Do you think die stamped is better than hand formed?

It could mean the dies are hanging around Mexico somewhere waiting to be used.

We don't appreciate style so much as practicality anymore.

That is unfortunate. I have a practical car, while not ugly it's not as beautiful as my '64 Cadillac Coupe de Ville was.
