May 8, 2010: Paper & Scissors, Rock

Unlike the Oragami we had in IOtD , where they fold a piece of paper with no cutting, Peter Callesen cuts the paper. Then he folds those cut pieces, with a little glue, to make these displays, that really rock.

Callesen, like the Origamiests?, Oragamists?, paper folders, works with a single sheet of paper, sometimes a sheet of A-4 (8.5x11), sometimes much larger pieces. He does installations indoors, outdoors, at museums, and shows.
His work is quite detailed and most amazing.

link To a blog showing a lot of his work on one page. Not as complete but easier to navigate.

As I am looking at this and not loving it so much I am thinking that you would be the perfect person to go to museums with. You can see wonder in many things.

Look at those broken columns. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to make all them from an 8.5x11 piece of paper? Go to the links and look at the detail in his work, it's incredible. Maybe you can't appreciate his skill until you've tried it yourself.

A4 is 210 × 297 mm. A sheet of "8.5x11" US letter is 216 × 279 mm. Not the same!

Well,I think it's amazing! The way the paper flows into the art is very fluid and has a certain beauty about it.

The name sounds destinctly Danish, so I looked up the contact info on his website - this guy lives within walking distance from me...

I like his work, and I guess there's a good chance I'll get to see some of it if I keep an eye out for his name in the future.

That is beautiful.
It's the kind of beauty I imagine Claire Abshire's work would have (Time Traveller's Wife - book not film)
The figure composed of figures is very moving.

You can take me to a museum any time, Bruce
