Grav I am really sorry for you.
And I know things are different in the States and that Best Friend is like... well - your Best Friend.

But in this country Best Friend would be an arsehole.
You do not let dogs out to roam around unsupervised. Even apart from the antisocial aspect of shitting on pavements and howling after bitches on heat within well fenced yards, they are in danger themselves.

You loved Crash and it must hurt like buggery.
Many fingers crossed he remembers the house where he knew his place in the pack and comes home to you.

Dani those are cutesome. I can see the Beardie in him now.

Some dogs, like my nephew dog, you can leave out without a worry. He'd never go anywhere he wasn't supposed to. Neither did his predecessor, who died at a ripe old doggeh age.

Also, people around here will actually STEAL dogs. Sick, huh?

I'm hoping someone opened their car door and said "Let's go". Cause he'd prolly jump right in, he loved to ride.

Sometimes I prefer to think he just answered the call of the wild.

Dogs shit. At five in the morning. You get up, get dressed, leash and walk the dog. Around here, at five in the morning, the dog (or cat, as the case may be) gets thrown out the door with a heartfelt cussing. He let the dog out to shit, not to roam the countryside at his whim and fancy. Which he apparently did. He'd never went gallivanting around before...

But the fact does remain...he's gone.

And that's my point.
I don't have a dog, I don't want a dog and if I had a dog (when my family had a dog) she was not let out unsupervised. Even with an enclosed garden. She was let out at 06.30-07.00 every morning, and if she shit, it was my job to pick it up. I walked her at 07.30 every day. And if she shit, I picked it up.

My cat poops in a litter tray. It's in my bedroom.
You can guess how often I am disturbed by the call of nature... but at least I can lay hand of heart and say I am a responsible owner.

But again, this is not directed at you.
I lost a cat and it broke my heart, so I really feel for you losing Crash.

I just returned "Jake" to his owner. Sweet dog but very barky. His owner didn't seem to thrilled to see him.

Andy (the reluctant outdoor dog) got into an argument with another dog this weekend. The argument's over and this was the result. Of course, a tiny wound like this is impossible to see when it is fresh, but by the next day the side of his face and head was swollen. It was so tender it was impossible to touch his right ear even. So I cleaned it, drained it, shaved it, cleaned it again, disinfected it, drained it, cleaned it, repeat repeat repeat. He's no longer tender to the touch, thank goodness. His temperament is as good as it ever is, his appetite is normal, I think he's gonna be fine. But I have cleaned the wound probably six times several hours apart since Sunday and each time I get gross gunk from the wound, albeit less each time. And the swelling is now practically invisible. I have also taken to applying hot compresses to that side of his little head over the wound to warm up and loosen any material in there. It's pretty gross but I think he'll be ok. Poor guy.

Awww, poor baby.

I always kept triple antibiotic creme around for Gaines who I let outside in his later years (because he loved it and he had a safe playground.) He did sometimes find another cat, and being a stubborn butthead, he couldn't resist a fight. I'd put that antibiotic creme on his ear (usually the only injury which makes me think he won) and in two or three days he'd be fine.

GAWD I miss him!

Poor little bugger. Keep an eye on it even though it's getting better. Dog bites are bastards for infection, and sometuimes it 'hides' under the scab.

Infi: *hugs* totally feel ya babe.
