Once again, the call goes out

The days are getting cooler and crisper and a young boy's fancy turns to impaling Bambi and his friends & family.

In other words, it's hunting season again and I need to make some primitive arrow heads so I am asking any dwellars who live near areas where chert, flint, jasper, obsidian, novaculite, or quartzite are found if they'd be willing to ship me some rocks.

thanks

I've been trying to imagine how to explain myself to Mrs. Z if I did happen to find an ideal rock (I live in the burbs):

Mrs: Whatcha doing?
Me: Looking for a box.
Mrs: What size?
Me: About like this.
Mrs: What for?
Me: I need to mail some rocks.

There's not a lot of stone left around these parts, but there's an awful lot of broken glass in my life. Listing obsidian as option got me thinking: what about beer bottles? Or is bambi's mom strictly a "wine and cocktails" kind of lady?

So i log in to say:

Hey Bill Wiltdick, I would be much pleased if you would please to warn some of us that a Deer Snuff Film is in progress. Because really? I would like to have a choice whether or not to watch every stupid GIF you decide to post.

And fuck you.

Bill - that is a great gif. It shows the ultimate kill. The doe never felt it and sparing them pain is the ultimate goal.

3F - How much do you need? I have some novaculite just gathering dust. I switched to jasper for my knife blades.

Ok leaving aside the swiftness of the deer's death and the questionable decision to take a head shot at a deer, that video was gratuitously vivid.

While a perfect headshot may be humane, a poorly placed headshot can be non fatal. Better to go for a body shot.

I'd take however much novaculite you've got. I finished your arrow- finally got it fletched! Pm me your current address and when I overcome my post office phobia ill send it along with other packages.

Bloody hell, that deer gif was horrible.

I just don't get the hunting thing. Yes, before anybody says it, I am a hypocrite. I eat meat and wear leather shoes, and I know the cows that provide both don't die easy or clean.

But I just cannot get my head around the idea of wanting to shoot an animal for sport. I just don't get the appeal at all. I get wanting to eat and therefore killing an animal. I just can't see where the fun comes in. I cannot imagine seeing a beautiful wild creature and wanting to put a bullet in it and then mount its face on a board.

@ Infi: what are you talking about?

I'm talking about i would have liked to choose if i get to see footage of a deer getting its head blown off. I would like to have known that is what i would be seeing in a GIF when i was thinking I was checking how foot was doing. I found the GIF sickening abd a bit of perverted deer snuff film. Liking or not liking hunting is beside the point, and i had expected someone else to say something like 'yeah, you know, that is an image that perhaps could be hidden behind a warning:" Like, is there a mod in the house?

I thought my comments were rather clear on that point. Now I have King GIF on ignore, but that doesnt do too much if I don't log in nor does it do anything for others who may share my sensibilities.

I don't see much point in mounting that one's head on a plaque, either. It's a tasteless attention grabber for no apparent reason.

It was the 'for shame y'all' and 'grow a fucking spine' that bemused me.

I agree about the gif.

Incidentally, this was my first sight of the thread. I've been avoiding it because I knew it would upset/disturb me. And lo and behold so it has.
