And yet funnily enough I've heard it!
IMO it's usually used just because someone doesn't like the direction a comedy has taken - and rarely as ridiculous as the origin of the phrase implies.

Okay, I don't like it because I've heard it used about some comedies I really like...

In trying to find a *completely* different thread I seached for my name...and I've never seen this thread before...
