August 31st, 2020: Arriving Home / Happy Monkey Bait

I paid little attention to this sculpture when it was installed a few miles from me on the University of Michigan campus in downtown Ann Arbor to celebrate the university's bicentennial in 2017, but it is featured in the September 2020 edition of a local news/article publication called the Ann Arbor Observer, and some of the images were very striking. This is the image on the front cover of that issue and is an oil painting of the sculpture by Steve Gilzow.

I now intend to go and see it in person before it gets covered in snow.

It is the work of Sculptor Dennis Oppenheim

This image is from an article in the Michigan Engineer

took an evening bike ride to campus. It's not as big as I imagined (as the actress said to the bishop)

I was hoping the sun would still be on it (assuming that was when the iridescence would show the best) but I think I was a few minutes too late. I tried

That is pretty neat. The light would help though.

Nifty! I've been pondering a spiral for a while, but My medium is usually regular polygons, which don't lend themselves to spirals.

So, maybe I missed something, but...

Why are there no more IsOTD?

It's just that a really good friend killed herself on an Aug 31 and it seems the IsOTD stopped on Aug 31...

And I'm too busy to mourn two things.

Much too busy.

I think it mostly ran out of steam. It's a big ask of one person, but it's hard to coordinate with more contributors. I try to fill in when I find something interesting. Anyone can post one -just try not to double up with someone else's and follow the titling protocol, and give credit where due for pictures -don't get us into trouble!
