The new duct tape is here!!! The new duct tape is here!!!

I didn't even know it was coming. I was over at Boing Boing, and saw that 3M, the fine folks who make Scotch tape, have developed a new duct tape.

It's just like the old duct tape, but it's clear, and lasts much longer outdoors.

Tell all your friends! This is GREAT NEWS!

Clear ply for the straight guy? Do they not realize that the butt-ugliness of silver duct tape is part of its natural charm??

Imagine the versitility!

Oh, wait - it already WAS pretty dang handy, wasn't it?

D'you think it's as good as the original? I can't really imagine duct tape without the gooey white muck on it. . .

Well, there's duct tape and then there's duct tape. The weathered pictures from the link make it look like the clear tape still has a woven mesh in it. That's a good thing but cuts down the "invisibility" advantage a mite. And that "gooey white muck" is pretty good at filling in irregularities in your wrap job. Of course you might have to wrap a rag around it to keep it off your hands.
But for coolness and holding a bumper on, you can't beat Mil. Spec., dark green, duct tape.

Hundred Mile-an-Hour tape is good stuff for sure.

Duct tape is like the force.
It has a light side.
It has a dark side.
And it holds the universe together.

Thank you sir.

I've had a duct tape fixation since college.

I wonder if any high school kids will try using the clear tape to make their prom dresses this year?

All we need now is that transparent aluminum that Mr. Scott spoke of in STIV, and we're pretty much set.

With the advent of transparent duct tape, though, my window glass changing days are over.

When I saw the clear duct tape, I had one of those "Gee, technology is really cool" moments. The last time that happened was when they started making 3-1/2" diskettes.

The thing was, the moon buggy was churning up the fine powdery moondust whaich was contaminating their onboard bug stuff, so with some paperwork they had lying around (!) and DUCT TAPE they fixed this gizmo which kept the dust down. What do they call them on bikes, like mudguard attachments? Oh and it's here, http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap011110.html if you'd enjoy a closer look.
