I stir clockwise and I look over my left shoulder to see behind me. I'm ambidextrous, FYI.

I stir everything clockwise -- coffee, tea, batter, soup, whatever. When I was a little kid, my great-grandmother taught me that it was bad luck to stir counterclockwise. I got in to the habit of stirring clockwise, and now I keep it as a way of remembering her.

I look over my right shoulder, and I'm right handed.

Depends on which hand I'm using to stir. Right hand goes clockwise, left hand goes counter. I tend to stir or mix things with my right hand despite being left handed.

I look over my right shoulder. It feels like a tactical response when surprised by something behind me. Looking over my right shoulder turns my left arm out of the way of whatever harm could be approaching. Not that that makes any sense, because I shoot righty and can throw a stronger punch with my right hand. My right hand and arm is faster though... Over think much?

I start off stirring clockwise, but then abruptly switch to counter-clockwise.

My theory is that this forces more collisions between the two substances I am trying to mix. Is there any validity to that?

I do this too.

Clockwise-only creates a linear flow that allows undissolved coffee/sugar to simply swirl around the bottom of the cup. Reversing the direction of stir creates chaotic turbulent flow which greatly increases mixing, and thus dissolution.

I believe this does work, because I can feel the extra resistance from the coffee and sugar up until the time I reverse directions, but not thereafter.

Oh, well if you mean like mixing cake batter & such, thats different. I alternate between clockwise and counter clockwise, then scrape the edges and go into a linear mix horizontally and vertically. Repeat as necessary.

I'm late on the poll...but interesting question. I never thought about it. I always start clockwise then usually switch directions once or twice to increase mixing. Depends on what I'm making though.

As for looking over my shoulder, no preference, I don't think. Probably left though, since that is the way my head goes when biking, running, sleeping etc.

The right one. When I leave today, I'll pay attention to which one I use to decend them.

Shouldn't there be another poll? If a righty, right or left, if a lefty right or left etc.
