Bad. I got a call today from an old friend in south LA. One of my old flames died. 3 weeks from the diagnosis to grave yard. !@#$ cancer. She was working every day and, thought doing good. Went to dr. for something, then the news.

Get about 30 pitted dates. Cram 2-3 slivered almond pieces into the center of each one. Cut a package of bacon into thirds, wrap a third of a slice around each date. Put in a pan seam-side-down so they don't unwrap, and cook in the oven for 30 minutes at 350. Done and done. They taste amazing.

Update. I got a card from lady who called. Betty donated her body to LSU med school for cancer research. She was a great lady, in spite of taking up with me once.

Good news: Minifob's back on steroids. Sure sure, not sustainable long-term, side effects, yadda yadda yadda... but in this moment, I am happy my kid is in less pain.

Bad news: In addition to his guts feeling great, he is reporting that his chronic leg pain is much better too. This means that it is probably not a side effect of earlier steroid use, as we were previously hoping (because that would mean it would probably go away in time,) but rather a mild form of rheumatoid arthritis. We haven't bothered to get it blood tested yet because 1.) it's low on the scale of his problems, and 2.) he's already on all the same drugs they'd put him on to treat it anyway, so it's not really worth the blood draw.

Sorry to hear that, Clod - happy to hear that Minifob's more comfortable, but sorry about what the steroid benefit implies. You might want to get some bloodwork done anyway - there's more than one type of juvenile arthritis out there and it would be helpful to know what you're dealing with. It's not an emergency, so whenever other bloodwork has to be done would be a good chance ... but it might be good to have a little more info.

Very glad he's in less pain. Daily pain sucks, badly. Especially if you're a kid.

Thanks ortho. He's due for another CBC in late March, we'll probably get it done then.

Good news: This was met with a sincere LOL by me and my Uncle G.

ps--it's not really *bad* news, just sad, but there will be a certain finality to it. and the joke is funny, and we really did LOL. thanks.

There is nothing sweeter than the absence of pain.
