Suspension fork repair

I had another annoying creak in my bike. The last one was a broken seat and before that bottom bracket. It seemed to be in my fork. The wipers and seals seem to be breaking down so time to consult the interwebs. I found the manual for my fork and ordered the parts from Real World Cycling.

Does "fork 10" show the broken old part next to the new one.

Those are both old wipers, one from each side the one on the left was in worse shape as was the seal under it. It broke apart as I pulled it out. I realized after the fact that I hadn't taken a picture of the new part before assembly. On the reassembled bike pic you can see the new wipers are blue.

I did kind of a terrible job documenting this... fork9 has the cap, pre-load adjuster, and spring which goes in from the top of the slider.

So my fork was more compliant and smooth today. I got a bit more travel out of it as well by reducing the amount of fluid. Now I have a creak in the rear linkage. lol

Try stretching real good before the ride.

It seems the seals on shocks are the Achilles heel. oooh. Just thought of a million dollar idea.

Yeah, that seemed too easy. Never mind.

You'd be surprised how unwilling kids are to attempt the repair. The $100 idea might be to rebuild forks during the winter. Not a big payday but milk and eggs in the fridge.
