You slide those little brackets together, the scratches leading up are on the same side on both ends. I thought this was the ceiling but I can't figure out a use for the piece with holes in it...which looks like a skandia-type shelf upright...which would mean this is the intersection of two walls and the orientation of the photo is rotated. Don't recognize the little z-shaped pegs...or can think of a reason why they would be inside the two pieces... If they were on the outside and this was the ceiling they would fall out... If the holes run through and this is on the wall, then... . . .

Oh...the white stripe on the inside of the first photo is the finished edge, in other words the z-shaped pegs are inside the two pieces and the long part of them goes across the slot which is an opening on the bottom of the bottom piece, when the pieces are connected.

You set the spacing of the, let's call them "hangers" on the inside, and slide the brackets together.

Why are they z-shaped, why not u-shaped and go in the holes on both sides? Well if you had one facing in from each direction, something hung across both would have some wiggle room, but only until the point where it caught on the upwards-facing side of the z. And you can't go over the top of that because it is inside the two pieces. Although not enough that the upwards facing points have ever scratched the bottom of the top piece.

So I cheated, and clicked through to the big pictures on flickr and I still got nothin'.

What are those little spools of mono filament line? Is this a hanger for tape art? I kind of doubt it, because it's so elaborate, and you could just hang them from a curtain rod or something.

I think elaborate is a pretty accurate word to describe Happy Monkey, though. I suspect that it is indeed a gadget for effectively stringing many tape ornaments across the middle of the room.
