New Toilet Paper/Towell Dispensers

We just got these new toilet paper /towel dispensers where I work. I like the old simple ones better. These new ones stick out to far. Oh well, guess we'll have to get used to them.

They don't make anything easier.

Not for the user, anyway.

What about for the janitor? I see the TP dispenser holds 3 rolls. Less work for the janitor to restock.. The towel dispenser probably gives out a measured length of towel, cutting down on costs. And unlike the individual towel dispensers you won't accidentally pull out 3-4 towels at once.

All true, glatt. But I miss the beauty of the single roll, you know, being able to hold it, roll it myself. And the C-fold towell is a classic, if a bit outdated. Hard to stop the ceaseless march of innovation.

TV dinners cut down on work too.

Nothing is worse than those major-sized rolls where there's no perforation and you have to yank off the end of the paper because the "cutter" on the dispenser isn't actually sharp or anything.

Even as a crumpler I have to complain.

In our new building we have the kind where you wave your hand in front of it and it spits out a length of paper towel. We're getting them in the old place too--I don't know what went into the decision, all I know is that the old ones jammed regularly. And like UT says they often managed to put unperforated rolls in them. Why, I don't know. (Though my "nothing worse" would have to go to no paper towels at all.)

The touchless dispensers have a red LED on the front. In the same building the doors with electronic locks have ID card readers next to them that also feature red LEDs. This inspired me to make a proposal that we could fit the paper towel dispensers with card readers, thereby enabling us to track paper towel usage per person and charge back the appropriate departments.

Sadly, the suggestion was rejected.

Does the executive washroom have the good dispensers, or do they have to deal with the same crappy (heh) new ones you use?

As long as it's not that shiny paper they used to have in the public WCs when I was a lad, then I'm happy with anything.

Mind you, if there's a touchless dispenser available sounds like we may be on the way to automatic wash and dry without leaving the seat very soon

(remember there being a joke about that, where the guy goes into the ladies toilet because he's caught out and the gents is full - the usual two button jobbie in the men's now has 3 buttons - presses first button and gets hot gush of water around his arse and privates, pushes second button and warm jet of air gently dries same area - curious he pushes the third button and a mechanical hand emerges, grabs hold of his testicles and throws them in an adjacent waste bin)

Jumping in on the modern potty thread .....

While passing through the airport in Akron Ohio, in the ladies restroom there are automatic, motion detection, clear, paper toilet seat covers!! I thought it was the most wonderful OCD invention I have ever witnessed in a bathroom. Now if they could just bar you from leaving unless you wash your hands BEFORE you go back to your job touching ....anything.

That's all I had.

My stepdaughter has always been terrified of auto-flush toilets. She makes me go in the stall with her and cover the sensor up until she's safely done and out of the stall.

Automatic faucets.
They won't go on until your hand is so close to the spigot that water splashes all over. they go off if you move far enough away to wash you arm or wrist. Only warm, no hot and no cold.

Oh, and a delay like a digicam shutter.

Since I know you have all been losing sleep over this, I wanted to let you know that the motion-sensing paper towel dispenser was installed in the men's room down the hall from my office this afternoon. (It runs on size "D" batteries.)
