I sent her to the walk-in after work. It now has an ugly ring around it. Now I'm told I should have used petroleum jelly or Vicks to get it to pull itself off...

My sources say the exact opposite, do NOT do this, it will cause the tick to vomit and thus greatly increase the pathogenic load.

Use tweezers, get a good grip as close to the human's skin as possible, pull the sucker off. Brute force, no chemicals.

If this is on a sensitive place, like a scrotum, it is going to sting.
