linking question

I'm sorry if I'm asking this in the wrong section, but no other sections seem fit. Is there a rule in linking? I put a link in my post but was removed. I've tried searching for the answer but I can't seem to find it. I looked in the FAQ section, but I couldn't find any questions and answers in linking in posts. I'm sure each forum has its own rules and reasons for them. I'm asking because I don't want to break any rules, nor do I want to upset the admin or moderators.

I would be grateful if someone could point out the posting rules so I won't make any more mistakes in the future. And if the rules are obvious somewhere, I apologize for my cluelessness for I honestly did try searching for them.

Thank you in advance for any answers.

I believe posting links may be limited for an initial number of posts by new users, simply as a measure to prevent spammers from posting links.

Since you are a regular non-spammer person, this will be a temporary inconvenience. Somebody help me out here, what is it, like the first five posts, or the first 24 hours, or something?

Anyway, welcome to the Cellar. And, yes, this is the correct section for this question. There is also a catch-all thread called "Questions about this site" somewhere around here.

No links in the first post, with very rare exceptions. Occasionally the first post will have a link, that's vital to the point of the post, but that is rare.

If the link had been to Kershaw, I might have let it slide, but it was to an independent knife dealer, which smacks of spam. If I thought that link was the entire reason for the post, I would have deleted it all, but I felt the post was legitimate, with the link as an addition, so I just removed the link.

Ahh....I now vaguely remember to the sort of no linking for newbies. I registered some time back and had forgotten about the rule. I apologize. I merely did a search for a Kershew Onion knife to show a pix as an example and choose whatever came up first without thinking. My apologies. Again, thank you everyone who have responded. And thank you xoBruce for understanding.

This thread is in this section, which I did start to read. But it's an awfully long thread with one question after another with dialogues without any organization. Sorry, I really didn't have the time to read through 11 plus pages of posts, and with no guarantee that my question will be answered.

Not so much understanding, as guessing. Without a crystal ball, I have to find out what I can about the poster's background, and figure out their intent.
It's a judgment call and being semi-human, I surely make some mistakes.
Your patience is appreciated.

Tulip,

As stated at the start of registration:

To prevent spam your first few posts will be moderated. They will appear after seen as not spam. Say whatever you like; sell nothing.

If you post a link on your first post, expect your message to disappear, and your account to be banned. If you post a message that looks like a pitch in any way, expect your message to disappear. If you post a "real" message on your first post, and a pitch message on your second, expect both messages to disappear. We are extremely effective at this, and we are paying attention.
