June 13th, 2018: Pouched Rats

African, sometimes called Gambian, Pouched Rats are huge. Their head and body is 10–17.5 inches (25–45 cm) long,
with tails 14–18 inches (36–46 cm) long, and weigh between 2.2 and 3.3 lb (1.0 and 1.5 kg).
They’re called pouched because of the capacity of their cheeks.

They’re smart, have a great sense of smell, and easy to train for…

But not allowed to be brought into the US after being blamed for a 2003 outbreak of Monkeypox.

Thought so, but couldn't find any recipes.

From eol.com:
"The biggest predator of Gambian rats is humans, the indigenous African population. These rats are considered a delicacy and are often hunted for food."

So.... I got a book out of the library a few days ago and had glanced at the pre-novel blurb the day before I saw this thread:

"This is a work of fiction. Names, characters and incidents either are the product of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously.....The author also wishes he'd dreamed up the part about the giant Gambian puched rats, but he didn't. Those suckers are real.

That is what made me take a quick glance here.

I have now got to that part of the novel.

They must taste ok because a lot of people eat them, so garlic, bacon, and cheese has got to make them more yummy.

Probably tastes like chicken.

Or, chicken and Comp B, depending on how it died. At home, or at work.
