Justify Your Cellar Friendships Here

In order to keep other threads uncluttered here is the thread for justifying why you are friends with a particular dwellar. Keep it to 100 words or less please.

This is NOT, however, the place to explain why a dwellar sucks and is not your friend. That is a different thread.

e.g. I am friends with Squirell Nutkin because he does not go around the tree.

footfootfoot is my friend because I appreciate qualities like intelligence, humor, compassion, helpfulness, creativity and artistic talent. footfootfoot helped me when I was in need, and I will never forget that. He has been kind and friendly and generous to me.

footfootfoot is my friend because I feel sorry for him because hardly anyone likes him. He's not all that bad, once you get past the steely exterior.

classicman is my friend because he broke trail for me when all I saw was the crack of doom. We have both had monumental life shaping experiences that had many important aspects that were similar or even identical. His experience happened a little bit earlier than mine did and by virtue of that experience, he was able to lead me through mine. His help to me was life saving. I do not regard that as a bit of hyperbole. Y'know the joke about the difference between a friend and a real friend, well, classicman is a real friend. I know it, he knows it, and now you know it.

(no bodies were buried in the justification of this friendship)

xoxoxoBruce is my friend because of who he is. Glib sounding, sure. But I doubt that my justification is substantially different than numerous other dwellars' justifications. He is generous, reliable, and honest. His contribution to the group effort to hold my life together in one place, if not one piece, was invaluable. He knows what he's talking about and it makes me look smart and become smart when I pay attention to what he says.

I really don't often feel like I need to justify my friendships.

But I will take the opportunity to say something nice about a dwellar of whom I have always been fond, and who is getting a bit of stick at the moment (from myself as well I admit:P)

Ibby. We are such a bunch of oldies you know. But if I really, really try, I remember that kind of passion and absolute immersion in something I believed in. In a cause that was immediately felt and urgent. I find Ibby frustrating in discussions at times, but I rather suspect my younger self would prove just as frustrating. And who I am now would probably baffle or dismay my younger self.
The world needs Ibbies (:p). Whilst they’re learning how the world works, and learning how to move people, their learning curve is the energy behind a lot of change.

lookout123 is my friend because he took an interest in my life and shared his personal support as well as giving me important technical advice. Both gifts were sorely needed and greatly appreciated. He stood by me, answered my calls for help when I was in need. He set me straight when I was wrong, and I am indebted to him for that.

I justify my cellar friendships here.

they are now justified.

it's because I think about them as actual people....not just in the context of the cellar.

If you keep yourself anon, and protect your privacy to the extent that I can't imagine you as a real person, then we cannot be friends.

Elspode is my friend because he's soaked up so much of my tears and confusion and worry, wrung them through the twin silver platens of his logic and intuition, producing a gentle rain of soothing, comforting, encouraging words which were a balm for my spirit. To me, he is that proverbial "friend indeed".

as I think more about this thread, the more impossible it feels to satisfy both the premise of the opening post and my own desire for completeness. I will not be able to list, comprehensively, my friends in the cellar and do them justice. Inevitably, I'll overlook someone, as a result of my own scattered mind, and the prospect of snapping to attention that I'd failed to acknowledge dwellar-X gives me pause.

So I would like to say *now*, there are many people (people, mind you, not just some string of posts associated with a given handle) here that I consider friends. My list, at this point, is incomplete. It will remain incomplete, though I will continue to regard them as my friends and as I continue to name names. Because I cannot do it perfectly should not be reason for me to fail to attempt to do it well. I will strive to do it well.

Maybe I could come to love you over time if I could just get past some of your faults.
