Moderator voting thread

Undertoad • Jan 4, 2007 12:28 am
Please vote for no more than two people, to be Cellar moderators through the end of the year. The top two will be selected. The term of this office will be through 12/31/2007.

The job is:
Moderators are added to the list of email addresses that get notified when someone reports a post. One would remove spam and forum abuse and things like this.

Moderators can do the following:
- Edit, move, delete posts
- Edit, move, copy, open/close threads
- Post announcements (make posts "sticky" at the top of the forum)
- Ban users

This is not a popularity contest but a way to figure out who should have additional power for the benefit of the community. Full disclosure: although I have the ability to see who voted for whom, I won't peek, I sincerely promise.

The vote will be open for three days, ending at 12:01 am Jan. 7. Thanks all for participating.

Ahh, but the spam that's... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate posting of spam in the entertainment thread DID exist, and I'd have produced that post if they hadn't of pulled the thread out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow moderators...

Nurse, bring me my medication, damn it!

Like I said in the nominations thread......

Good luck guys!

Ultimately, the real winner is The Cellar, no matter who you vote for.

It's good, because you're right...and also because it was funny, in a good way.

Practicing my trow da bums out/term limits are good experience is bad/don't burn out your best and brightest strategys.

We'll see.

Truly, this slate is an embarrassment of riches. I regard all the nominees as supremely competent.

I think Bruce and Wolf are doing good jobs BUT I thought the idea was to give everyone an opportunity to moderate who wanted to?

Not like we are voting any one out to change a vote. I'd like to see someone who would like the duty of moderating for a while be given the opportunity.:2cents:
yesman065 • Jan 4, 2007 7:42 pm
Thats a good point skysidhe. I didn't think of it that way - I looked at it from the "if it ain't broke don't fix it." point of view. I think they do a great job so . . .
skysidhe • Jan 4, 2007 8:06 pm
:mg: yesman you read my mind! I was saying to myself that most people were looking at it from the 'if it aint broke don't fix it viewpoint"

and thanks for recieving the heart in which it was given! Yes wolf and bruce are very fine moderators.
Ibby • Jan 5, 2007 9:08 am
Oh, yeah, thanks for paying SOOO much attention to the nominations for the youngest member...
Undertoad • Jan 5, 2007 9:22 am
You can't nominate yourself, it doesn't count!

People should be able to vote for themselves because voting for anyone else is moot if the incumbents are "comfortably in" "Why even bother?" some may ask.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 6, 2007 9:03 am
3,041 members....33 voters thus far. ;)
Shawnee123 • Jan 6, 2007 9:19 am
I'm counting 66?
Spexxvet • Jan 6, 2007 9:20 am
Multiple votes: 33 voters twice each.
lumberjim • Jan 6, 2007 9:22 am
if you look at the footer of the poll table, it tells you how many voted

OK, now I'm confused. Each votes counts for two votes...and why?
SteveDallas • Jan 6, 2007 10:34 am
You're asked to vote for two choices. So the number of votes cast is twice the actual number of people who voted.
Shawnee123 • Jan 6, 2007 10:45 am

Oh...duh!!!!!
Flint • Jan 6, 2007 11:59 am
So we each get four half-votes?

Not you, Flint. Your votes count as only half a vote. :p
Undertoad • Jan 8, 2007 4:54 am
Congratulations to Wolf and xoxoxoBruce who remain moderators for 2007.
DucksNuts • Jan 8, 2007 5:10 am
Congrats Wolf n Bruce!!!

I'm cracking a bottle of wine in your honour!
Elspode • Jan 8, 2007 1:59 pm
Two worthy candidates who ran a clean, fair race and winning much deserved re-election.

Meanwhile, I'd like to say that, as the Libertarian Party representative in this race, I feel like we've made a lot of progress in getting our message out to the voters once again this campaign season, and we'll be back in 2008! (did I get that right, Radar?) :D
yesman065 • Jan 8, 2007 2:10 pm
well said Elspode - And congrats to all.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 8, 2007 6:12 pm
Thank you, thank you very much.....I think.

Elspode always gets the message out.... in the most original, eloquent, and entertaining way, imaginable.:notworthy

You like me, you really like me! *sniffle*
Aliantha • Jan 9, 2007 3:35 am
You've both done a great job during the time I've been here, and although I'm well aware that I'm probably not your favourite poster, I appreciate the effort you go to in your jobs.

I'll look forward to much of the same in the coming year!
BigV • Jan 9, 2007 3:06 pm
To wolf and xoxoxoBruce:

Thank you for your service and devotion to the cellar for the past year. Your work has improved our experience and all who participate have enjoyed the fruits of your labors. Thank you for a job well done.

Good luck in the coming year. Undoubtedly, there will be bigger and better, new and improved problems to solve, and I know each of you is equal to the task ahead. Congratulations and thanks to both of you.

"Congratulations" to UberGloat, for successfully mis-directing the ignorant masses with an "Orange Alert" against spammers,
...and a "conveniently-timed" style change. Your Karl Rove-esque efforts have made this "election" possible.

WAKE UP, SLEEPY CITIZENS, YOU ARE SUFFERING UNDER THE ILLUSION OF DEMOCRACY, IN A DIGITAL GULAG!

I second that...when are the 'Cellar Mascot' elections?
lumberjim • Jan 13, 2007 9:10 pm
as soon as you make it happen. that's the beauty of this place. only our imagination limits us.
Elspode • Jan 16, 2007 2:15 pm
We already *have* a mascot. It is a whale penis. Now...who wants to wear the costume? That's the big question.
