Seems like I've started to snore.

I can hear myself. It's really upsetting. Snoring is bad! I wonder why this is happening all of a sudden.

Yeah, I snore too, apparently. I don't hear myself though. I only know it's been happening when I'm woken up by a little shove from my SO, while he's trying to hear the TV.

don't smoke tobacco any longer; haven't smoked much of anything lately; don't drink to excess; am overweight, but I always have been. Am old. My bed/mattress is fucked up and I need a new one.

maybe it's allergies. I often feel slightly short of breath in the morning. Maybe that's not quite it--but I feel almost wheezy.

Age and overweight will cause it
It will do you a lot of damage, high blood pressure, heart diseaes and diabetes they all seem to go together.

It does sound like allergies. Maybe you should change pillows to start?

Neither snoring nor apnea are good for sleep or health. Sometimes I sleep better on the couch, half leaning on the arm. That makes me think it might be a bed or pillow thing, as suggested in the other comments.

My mom has had a huge problem with snoring for years, nothing seemed to helped. She had surgery to remove a tumor on her pituitary gland where they went in through her nose, after that the snoring was much much better. For a few years. This past year she did a sleep study program and is on some breathing machine at night. She's doin alot better. You might want to try a sleep study.
