Air Fryer or Huge Cock?

lumberjim • Jul 23, 2018 7:19 pm
I got the Instant Pot pressure cooker for Christmas this year. I had Santa get it for Amanda, but as I do 95% of the cooking, it was really for me(shhh).

I love it, and use it weekly. I'm wondering about air fryers now. I have a conventional fryer. I think I posted some cooks on here when I was snowed in a couple winters ago.... But the air fryer is interesting. I'm considering putting it on my birthday list. It's either that or this big Rooster:

I'm getting some resistance from Amanda about the giant cock in the yard, but I think it will look alright:

So, what do you know about air fryers?

pro-cock

exposed to an electric smoker this weekend, would place above air fryer
Undertoad • Jul 23, 2018 8:06 pm
another vote for smoker

i do not know first hand but i understand that a lot of women will object to a huge cock
lumberjim • Jul 23, 2018 9:18 pm
What I'm gonna do with a smoker?

The thing I like about the instapot is that I can cook the whole meal up in one pot, and make very little mess doing it. AND it takes about an hour start to finish to make a real meal.

The air fryer looks like it could add the crispy food element. Pressure cookers tend to make everything taste the same and it's easy to overcook meat and veggies.
Undertoad • Jul 23, 2018 10:08 pm
that same meal will take 12 hours in the smoker sorry to say

but, ain't nothin' ever been fried in air, come on now. air fryer. pullin mah leg. somebody at the factory said hey go make a batch of hair dryers and they made air fryers instead and now they got to get rid of them
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 23, 2018 10:46 pm
The air fryer will blow a mist of oil rather than submerge and saturate it in high calorie oil. Better bet for time saving for [strike]lazy[/strike] busy chefs. ;)
lumberjim • Jul 24, 2018 2:21 am
I've only watched a couple reviews, but it seemed like they flash dehydrate, using the fat from what you put in to create the fried exterior. Gotta look for one where they make bacon....

Nunna youse guise has one?
Glinda • Jul 24, 2018 3:13 pm
I bought myself something similar to the Hot Pot last Xmas, and I love it. SO much better than using a traditional pressure cooker.

As for the question at hand, I think you all know that I'm a big cock kinda gal. ;)

My local farm store has one that I've been eyeing for months. I figure at some point, they'll drop the price and it will be MINE!
Clodfobble • Jul 24, 2018 7:06 pm
A big cock like that, you want it closer to the street. Increases curb appeal.

Ya I have an electric smoker and it works good. Mostly I smoke King Mackerel not the big ones, but small ones pulled out of a gill net for free just a hours labor.

I'm going to get one as I had some fried chicken that was delicious.

Only $200 at Tractor Supply.!

I would plant your big cock at the corner of your walkway and the city sidewalk.
sexobon • Jul 24, 2018 9:12 pm
If anyone complains about your big cock in the yard, attach it to a swivel anchored to the roof and call it a weather vane.
captainhook455 • Jul 24, 2018 9:35 pm
By the way your house looks so much better since Amanda went there. It used to look like a small towns funeral parlor.
Dagney • Jul 26, 2018 5:58 pm
My vote will always be for the giant chicken since reading this:

http://thebloggess.com/2011/06/21/and-thats-why-you-should-learn-to-pick-your-battles/

We're in discussions about an air fryer - not sure how much we'd use it - but it looks like it would provide some yummy crispy fried healthy-ish goodness to our diets.

And the OnePot? Man, those things are fanfreakintastic when you have long drives from the office and forgot to thaw out dinner.

I can cook dry beans to completely cooked in one hour. Usually I let them sit overnight as my wife likes the beans soft, but still in a hour they done. Ribs from frozen to almost falling off the bone in 25 minutes. Yup I like ours. (mine)
lumberjim • Jul 27, 2018 1:10 pm
yeah, I think I need both

I'll take a pic tonight after I mow the lawn. You should see the Vincas along the walk now. Looks way better all grown up

That ain't cooking beans in an hour. That's cooking beans in two days!!:lol2:
lumberjim • Jul 27, 2018 4:28 pm
I think he means that he doesn't have to soak them if he uses the pressure cooker.

Here's the new growth

Looks great! Love the blue hydrangea. You must have acid soil. Good for blueberries too.

What I don't eat at McDonald's. I barbeque a lot and for the ribs to be tender so fast is a godsend. I do a whole chicken in the cooker then slather in Kraft and into the oven for the proper burn. Maybe 1.5 hours.
captainhook455 • Jul 27, 2018 7:08 pm
I think Jim means that I mean I don't have to soak the beans before cooking. Some like their lima beans and pintos the next thing to mush so presoak if you like mushy beans.

The thing I don't like about the cooker is to have all the spices and salt right before cooking. Its not like you can open the lid and think it needs more salt or a pinch of sugar. Tough nuts til its done.
captainhook455 • Jul 27, 2018 7:26 pm
Did you cut the grass for the picture? The lawn looks swell. Sure will hate to see winter come.
lumberjim • Jul 27, 2018 8:49 pm
I mowed because the grass was ankle high. I waited to take the picture for you.

I don't think you let the lawn go wild after that work in the yard. My yard is low and it rains about every day through a typical July. I have a volunteer tomato growing next to a rose tree and watermelon in another spot.

I am going to try square hay bale growing next spring. Set them up in the fall and let them winter over then plant in middle of bale in the spring. I see how that goes. I am not as energetic as I used to be. I weed eat around the house and porches with roundup.

Dags,

I think that linked story may have closed Amanda on this. She was guffawing and chortling and quoting lines later that night.

That's like $200 worth of free chicken!

Knock knock, motherfucker!

Ps, we might be getting new towels too...
captainhook455 • Jul 29, 2018 9:13 pm
I didn't know they had towels in 3X.lol.

Reminded me of the second Boondock Saints movie when the dude (Clifton Collins, Jr) is trying hard to come up with a cool catch phrase for the next shoot out. He kicks in the door to the place, with two guns pulled, and yells "Ding DONG, motherfucker, ding DONG!!!"
captainhook455 • Jul 31, 2018 9:10 pm
I was thinking( it happens) that if the outside has been remodeled than what about the inside of the house. I don't just sleep anywhere you know.

Air Fryer sounds like a shit idea and I haven't heard anyone raving about them IRL, unlike the pot thing.
lumberjim • Apr 28, 2019 10:30 pm
I'm raving. I use it more than the microwave. Daily, really.
monster • Apr 28, 2019 10:59 pm
interesting. better than the pot thing? (I didn't realize this was a revamped thread til after I posted ... then thought fuck it. I'm tired :D)
lumberjim • Apr 29, 2019 12:27 am
I'll use both for sure... The instant pot is awesome for making a dinner.... The air fryer is basically an intense convection toaster oven. If you prefer crispy food to quickly hot and mushy, you'll use the air fryer instead of the microwave.

Buy one. Give it a place on a counter. You'll use it a lot.
Lola Bunny • May 20, 2020 9:15 pm
Just got myself an air fryer. Love it. Just made a grocery list and I'm going to start cooking lots more. [emoji16]

(The senior starred in McHale's Navy.)

I still use the air fryer daily. I have 2 actually. Sometimes I have both going at once.

Hardly use the instant pot lately.

The cock is a big hit, though.
