A boneheaded move

When I noticed that my computer is getting low on disk space, I figured there was just extra junk that could be eliminated. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that, really, there's not that much left. (I have 2 40GB drives.) Between Winblows XP itself, Mrs. Dallas' music CD projects, digital photos, ripped music, etc. etc. etc., we're down to about 9GB.

So, no sweat, order another drive, they're cheap. Hmmmm let's just head over to newegg and pick out something... oooooo SHINY 120GB for $84. Let's hit that.

Since I got an email yesterday that it had shipped, I thought I'd check the tracking. And noticed that it's a serial ATA drive. My computer doesn't have that kind of interface! :smack:

just buy a firewire enclosure. They're fairly cheap.

Or SATA add-in card, or USB enclosure if your system isn't equipped with firewire.

It's no biggie.

I do stuff like that all the time. Drives me nuts.

I would just return it unopened and request the correct kind. I bet if you ask (nicely) they won't charge shipping on the 2nd one.

Well I've written customer support.. they charge a 15% restocking fee for returns but their web site is vague about exchanges on non-defective stuff. But an extra $25 for a serail ATA card wouldn't be horrible.

If the BIOS sees it you won't have to mess with any drivers. If there are drivers involved I would avoid that.

If you have another $100 to spare you could probably upgrade your motherboard to one that has SATA.

Or you could sell the drive to me. I will be needing one soon.

But it's so small...
