July 24, 2011 Jeweled Ceiling Made from Millions of Beetles

It’s apparent at first glance that this is no ordinary ceiling; it’s vivid and iridescent in a way that suggests some kind of rare and special material. In fact, the ceiling – located in the Royal Palace in Brussels – is made up of an astonishing 1.6 million Thai jewel beetles. It took Flemish artist Jon Fabre and his team of 29 assistants four months to glue all the beetle shells in intricate patterns.

WOW. Astoundingly beautiful!

classicman  Sunday Jul 24 03:28 PM

That is gorgeous. Wasn't THAT beetle an IotD or something? It looks familiar.

xoxoxoBruce  Sunday Jul 24 07:40 PM

Yes.

Aliantha  Sunday Jul 24 07:54 PM

That's a shitload of dead beetles.

Wombat  Sunday Jul 24 11:17 PM

Gluing them all on was a big job. I suspect collecting them all may have been an even bigger job.

ZenGum  Monday Jul 25 04:51 AM

It was a hard day's night, alright.

The guy who did it got a little help from his friends.

infinite monkey  Monday Jul 25 09:50 AM

I hope, it's hard to carry that weight!

ZenGum  Monday Jul 25 10:07 AM

C'mon, whats a day in the life of a decorator really worth?

infinite monkey  Monday Jul 25 10:10 AM

I don't know. You never give me your money.

ZenGum  Monday Jul 25 10:11 AM

Well the bloody taxman took it all.

ZenGum  Monday Jul 25 10:13 AM

Man, we haven't done this in ages. Dammit, I totally have to go to bed. No googling the Beatles back catalog while I'm asleep! Later!

infinite monkey  Monday Jul 25 10:13 AM

So that's why we're relegated to living on Penny Lane.

infinite monkey  Monday Jul 25 10:14 AM

Later gator!
