August 7, 2012 - Wear Your Pet

What do you do with all the fur that collects when you brush your dog's coat?

There are people who take that fur and turn it into yarn which is then used to make a sweater, coat, hat, etc.

Back in 2008, it £11 to turn 100g of dog fur into yarn. Anyone care to put that in today's terms?

Bettina Menkhoff from Stoetze in Germany makes scarves, gloves and other clothes and sells them over the internet at www.jolly-fellows.de.

unwashed, sure. but sheep aren't any more ... hygienic than dogs. wool sweaters aren't awful (unless you don't like the smell of wool of course.)

We have two BIG labradoodles. Their fur is soft and doesn't have a doggy smell (that's one of the reasons we got this breed). I cut most of it off at the start of summer, and have been saving it up. Probably only have enough to knit a beanie so far, but eventually it will be enough to make something. Maybe a dog blanket.

Oh, and carrot peel?? Please explain?

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Aug 8 03:43 AM

Carrot.

footfootfoot  Wednesday Aug 8 08:06 AM

Inadequately inspired to write a "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" parody here.

Trilby  Wednesday Aug 8 08:21 AM

Yeah. I'm not doing that.

footfootfoot  Wednesday Aug 8 11:06 AM

Writing a parody or wearing a cat hat?

Just the one dog

Carrot Pilausson (his Sunday name :P) is a bearded collie. He's now seven and a half months old, but he was a little younger in those pics
