NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory
(Kind of reminds me of a scene from This Is the End.)
Lamplighter Friday Jun 28 09:51 AMA few days ago, I saw an image of the aftermath of that CME.
There was actually a "hole" created in the surface of the sun
where temperatures are lower than surrounding areas.
I have not yet found the link to that news article,
but in the Gallery of CM's link there is an pic below
close to what I remember. The blue areas are cooler "hole"
Adak Sunday Jun 30 08:25 PMIf all goes well (no rogue huge asteroid smashes us to bits), a CME will be hitting what's left of the earth, as the sun begins to change into a red giant, followed by it morphing into a dwarf star, by a huge compression.
When the world ends, it's by fire, barring cosmic wandering disasters.
ZenGum Monday Jul 1 02:35 AMThe diameter of that loop is probably ten or twenty times that of the Earth. The sun is a mighty beast.
SPUCK Monday Jul 1 06:53 AMThere goes the neighborhood.
