Good job, V.

I have a 14 foot pole saw for jobs like this and even though it takes a little longer, it's much more comfortable to use and safer. I use it at least once a year to trim branches around our service entrance wires. Prune them while they are small, and the job is easy. Plus it's a fiberglass pole, so even if you are an idiot and cut into a power wire, you will be safe.

Yabbut fall five feet with a jumpin' chainsaw in your hand? Uh-uh!

Sundae 10-26-2011 01:32 PM

I have a Sunday job!
Boots the Chemist decided I was exactly what they were looking for.

Well, for a month anyway (sigh).
Turns out it's just a Christmas position.

Never mind - I have my induction tomorrow (which I will obviously get paid for) and then start on 27 November.

Second interview this year, second job attained.
You see? They love me once they meet me - I just need to persuade more people to meet me! At least once I have this in the bag I'll have more recent experience on my CV (resume) to offset the gap when I was unemployed.

It's money for four Sundays which I wouldn't have otherwise.
And even better, it doesn't interfere with my Glasgow plans, as I don't leave Victoria until midnight on Sunday 18th. I very much doubt the store will be open that late...

SamIam 10-26-2011 01:56 PM

Yay, Sundae! A Sunday job for Sundae - that has got to be fate or karma or something. Who knows? Maybe they'll like you enough that you'll get to stay on in one capacity or another.

You go, girl!

Pete Zicato 10-26-2011 02:05 PM

V,Please remember that I hold you in the highest regard when I say, are you nuts?

footfootfoot 10-26-2011 02:17 PM

He may be a dumbass, but he's our dumbass.
j/k V

We luvs ya.

Pete Zicato 10-26-2011 02:18 PM

I'm happy to be out of the hospital.

I have to wait now for test results to see if I'm rejecting the Remicaid or if the Crohn's has gotten worse. The test takes a couple of weeks.

glatt 10-26-2011 02:30 PM

Sundae, that's excellent news. And it may only be a seasonal position at this point, but once you have your foot in the door, it may lead to more. You never know.

Great to see you're out of hospital Pete. Maybe the test could show that you just have a bug or something? I'll hope for the best for you anyway mate. xx

Sundae, what everyone else has said. Often part time jobs turn into something more permanent, so here's hoping. BTW, can you get us free drugs now?

monster 10-27-2011 09:54 AM

Excellent news, Sundae. Once you have that in, you'll be first in line when the need permanent part time staff.

Sundae 10-27-2011 12:06 PM

Had my induction today.
Turned out there was some confusion about my start date, it is in fact this Sunday.
So I have another month's worth of wages to earn.

Yay.

limey 10-27-2011 01:19 PM

Brill!

zippyt 10-27-2011 04:38 PM

Great NEWS! Congrats. Make an awesome impression and maybe they will hire you full time or call on you when they are short of staff in the future. I am very happy for you!

Glad to hear you are home. Crohn's is a tough disease. Hang in there.

DanaC 10-27-2011 05:24 PM

Hope you're feeling better soon Pete. Hope the Remicaid test comes good.

@Sundae: fuckin' A! Nice goin hon.

Nirvana 10-27-2011 07:59 PM

Go Sundae on Sunday! :cheerldr:

monster 10-28-2011 10:28 PM

SHUTOUT!

Awesome game 1-0, hector's second shut-out of the (4-game-old) season, but get this: he took 31 shots (at least), including several breakaways. :D :D :D And there were several grandparents there who don't really know the team and parents at all yet, saying things like "Wow, your team's goalie is really good..."

My throat hurts.

BigV 10-28-2011 10:51 PM

F*CKIN A!

Way to go!

Undertoad 10-28-2011 11:11 PM

Monster & Beest, their nature and nurture of the youths are turning out some fine athletes!

monster 10-29-2011 12:54 AM

well it's certainly not genetic....

Pete Zicato 10-29-2011 02:07 AM

Improvements to Ios5 for the IPad. The split keyboard is great for typing in landscape. And there are a number of improvements to Safari.

Yeah. Total geek.

I got to spend the entire day with my grandson, Sam, on the Sandy River.

In the first pic, Sam is working his new spey rod
The second is about a half acre of stacked stones along the river

V, my dear, as a mental health professional, let me add my $0.03 (adjusted for inflation) ...

Are you out of your fucking mind?

Oh, and hearty congratulations, Sundae!

Thanks. I know it was risky. But I survived, though as you can see in the pic below, the firewood has returned its carbon to the atmosphere already.

I'm back in my mind now, thanks!

Good thing, you wouldn't want to lose your chainsaw privileges, eh?

ZenGum 11-02-2011 02:59 AM

Re: Lamplighter's picture of stacked stones.

Now imagine if someone had painted faces on all of those stones ....

ZenGum 11-02-2011 03:19 AM

Making me happy today is the following (redacted) email:

Quote:

Dear Dr (Zengum),

You have successfully completed your probation period and are now confirmed in position of (General Smartass) in (Miscellaneous Academics Division) until 31-DEC-2049.
:jig:

Effectively, tenure, so long as I keep working and don't screw up (or one of my students).

Should I tell them I hope to retire before I'm 77?

Now, Wolf, hurry up and get that job you mentioned so I don't feel bad about being happy about this.

BigV 11-02-2011 03:45 AM

WAY TO GO!

:standing ovation:

DanaC 11-02-2011 04:00 AM

Wow! Fuckin' A' Zen. I mean.....just wow.

limey 11-02-2011 05:10 AM

Well done, Zen!

Aliantha 11-02-2011 05:26 AM

Good job Zen. I hope tenure is everything you thought it might be. :D

eta: you can still screw your students. You just have to declare it. ;)

Trilby 11-02-2011 06:49 AM

congrats Zen! that is teh awesome!!!

YAY!

ZenGum 11-02-2011 07:39 AM

Well, actually ... it's only against the rules if I am responsible for marking their work or being their supervisor. My unusual generalist position means I almost never actually do either. so, ahh ... :D

No. Not really.

Anyone I meet through work is off limits, since that is just unprofessional and dodgy in so many ways.

Unless she's like, really special.

Aliantha 11-02-2011 07:49 AM

Dazza dated a couple of his students over the years, but he doesn't anymore. lol

infinite monkey 11-02-2011 08:49 AM

I am in awe of the Zen.

WTG!

glatt 11-02-2011 08:52 AM

Zen, that's wonderful news. Congratulations.

Clodfobble 11-02-2011 09:13 AM

Cool! And I knew you were a higher education instructor, but I guess I didn't realize you were a PhD. I want to call you Dr. ZenGum from now on.

HungLikeJesus 11-02-2011 09:34 AM

Congratulations, Dr. Gum. I'm glad you finally got off of probation.

classicman 11-02-2011 12:20 PM

Congrats Dr. Zen. You earned every bit of it with your hard work, dedication and Cellar postings. ;)

SamIam 11-02-2011 12:36 PM

That's wonderful, Zen! Some lucky students in Oz are going to have a great teacher for some time to come. Good on you!

Awesome, Zen!

zippyt 11-02-2011 10:43 PM

Congrats Zen !!

bluecuracao 11-07-2011 09:59 PM

Yay Zen, congrats!

I am extremely happy today, because my father offered to buy a new mac for me. This is huge, because the one I have now is an old G4 that I have to keep open with a fan on it so it doesn't overheat. And he's even going to kick in for CS5!

This is so awesome, I am overwhelmed. I won't have to worry any longer about Bosco taking a wrong jump and landing on CPU innards. And...I'll have an updated system and software to do my work.

HungLikeJesus 11-07-2011 11:39 PM

My wife recently got CS5 and really likes it. What will you primarily use it for?

bluecuracao 11-08-2011 03:29 AM

Graphic design stuff--InDesign for print, Dreamweaver for web layouts...Photoshop and Illustrator for the artwork. I'll have to learn what Fireworks is all about. Is your wife a graphic designer, HLJ?

Griff 11-08-2011 06:40 AM

Well done Dr. Zen!

footfootfoot 11-09-2011 10:38 AM

Nice work Zen!

You've raised the intellectual climate of the cellar by a degree.

monster 11-09-2011 10:52 AM

I just scored!!!!!! Can't believe it. Getting despondant about my chances of finding a second-hand half-mask for Hector to wear when reffing hockey -even the ones on ebay are going for the price of new ones ($40 and up....). had 20 minutes to kill so wandered into the Re-use center which has a few -usually nasty sporting items and so i skipped yesterday when I was running out of time and *****dingly music golden light moment****** there was the holy grail, sat in a basket of grungy snorkels. $2.12 later and it's mine, all mine.......

Now, the question is, is this good karma that I'm owed, or is it setting me up for a big fall? i just got an email from his coach that they are doing another tourney that will cost us at least $100 ....maybe that's it? hopehopehope

I score a schweet goalie helmet for $28 yesterday, though....... I'm feeling too lucky.....
