I can leg press 265lbs! I don't know what the norm is for women, but that sounds pretty damn impressive to me! That was really the only thing about my pretest in my weight training class that I felt I did well.

lumberjim 01-26-2010 11:30 PM

sweet. I can bench that much, as it happens

morethanpretty 01-26-2010 11:36 PM

I can only bench press 75lbs, and only able to do 25 push ups.

lumberjim 01-26-2010 11:42 PM

only 25 pushups!?

ONLY?!

what the hell kind of push ups are you doing.

are you doing them in the pool?

morethanpretty 01-27-2010 12:25 AM

I have to do 'em in the girl position, using my knees instead of feet.

Edit: Is it just me, or does that sound reaaaaally dirty?

Griff 01-27-2010 05:33 AM

A couple years ago, Lil' Pete's gym teacher had the kids do as many (regular) push ups as they could. Eventually she just asked her to stop. Humiliating the boys in her class was her favorite past-time. I on the other hand can no longer do them without irritating my old wrist injury. I've started fencing lefty so maybe I can build it back over time. My best ever was 65 left-handed... long ago and far away.

DanaC 01-27-2010 08:16 AM

My bro used to do pressups one handed; or on his finger tips; or with his hands, but clapping his hands on the rise. Showoff :P

I've always been pathetic at that sort of thing. I think I can manage 5 proper pressups before I collapse in a heap :)

glatt 01-27-2010 08:20 AM

I could probably do ten, but haven't done one in years. I'd be sore afterward for days.

DanaC 01-27-2010 08:29 AM

My main problem with pressups is that I have rubbish joints. My elbows and wrist joints always go when I try.

DanaC 01-27-2010 08:56 AM

For some reason, I know not why, I am in a really good mood today. I still have a heap of work to do; and the corresponding guilt attached to not doing it :P But I am still feeling pretty damn groovy.

Maybe it's because my thesis is really starting to take shape. That first chapter is still not to my liking; but the last research trip garnered some really good source material and my supervision meeting on Monday went really well. Or maybe I am just in a good mood for no reason...I don't know.I don't care. I've had a bunch of days lately where I've had to work at my general mood; and it's reallly nice not to have to do that today :)

Pie 01-27-2010 09:31 AM

I'm getting better. There's less weird stuff draining from my sinuses.

morethanpretty 01-27-2010 09:34 AM

Good for both Dana and Pie!
Sinus infections are awful. I get them a lot too.

Sundae 01-27-2010 01:37 PM

I used to - haven't had one for a while now - or a throat infection. Cool potatoes, I really did grow out of them!

Anyway, I've done a Shawnee.

Well, not quite as altruistic. But I wrote to the B&B we stayed in to thank them . It's owned and run by two men, so it's not like praising the staff, but I put them on TripAdvisor and put a quick vid on YouTube to show other people how good it is.

I also wrote to JB to thank him for the panto. More a fan letter I suppose, but it was the best I've ever seen (not counting The League of Gentlemen as theirs was a subversive one) and performers thrive on praise.

AND I emailed Megabus who got us there and back to compliment them on their drivers. In truth they did nothing above and beyond the call of duty, but they were friendly, personable and got us there on time, and that's better than some.

Oh, then I complained to Dominos because on my final treat night they made me a completely grim pizza. BOOOOO. But I left it with the branch for educational purposes (I don't want another pizza or a voucher, so there's not much they can do for me) rather than going via Head Office.

Pie 01-27-2010 01:59 PM

SG, you should see the ads they've been running here in the States -- "We know our pizzas suck, so we've worked on it. Maybe they don't suck so much anymore."

No, they still suck.

Sundae 01-27-2010 04:48 PM

Funnily enough, I used to believe that there was such a beast as the "American Style Pizza" and it was in all ways inferior to any European pizza, which in itself was inferior to any Italian pizza.

I still believe Italian style is best. But having spoken to a lovely American man (did it help that he was handsome? Maybe...) and through posting here I realised that Dominos was not the pizza that America held as its benchmark.

This weekend Mum & I ate at ASK. It's a decent, mid-range chain and cooks reasonable Italian style food. I had a fishy pizza, Mum had Risotto Fruits de Mer (or whatever that is in Italian). We've both been to Italy more than once, and the food was comparable for the type of restaurant. And I had a voucher (American: coupon)

Back to what I meant to say - I was indulging shamelessly with that pizza, with something I previously gorged on. The fact I got a Small, when before I'd have had a Medium or Large shows it's no longer a regular occurrence.

And it's been a while since I've associated America with Pizza Hut, Dominos, Subway, McDonalds, Burger King et al. The Merkins I know have good taste. If'n you can get past the peanut butter thing.

MMMmmmmm.... I love them. Especially with Bubbies.

monster 01-27-2010 07:41 PM

Dominos suck. And not just their pizzas. Which are rank even among their peers of cheap pizzas.

classicman 01-27-2010 08:36 PM

Dominos boxes taste better than their pizza - that is the bottom of the food chain. I cannot think of any fast food worse than Dominos.

skysidhe 01-27-2010 08:48 PM

It was a good day.

monster 01-27-2010 09:20 PM

White castle.

Imagine the combo.... steam baked cheap pizzas....

jinx 01-27-2010 09:22 PM

We went into a Popeye's once, but left before ordering because the air in there was greasy.
Haven't had Domino's since the early 90s.

Clodfobble 01-27-2010 09:26 PM

I used to work at a Domino's. I have eaten it since then, but only under duress.

jinx 01-27-2010 09:31 PM

I worked at Pizza Hut (don't get the salad bar)... It's been years, but not as many as Dominos.

Tulip 01-27-2010 11:04 PM

Was gonna try Domino's because of their ads, but maybe I won't anymore. :p I used to like Pizza Hut but their pizzas taste too sweet for me nowadays. I thought it was just the Mia's but I think they all taste sweet. I usually don't eat pizzas anymore due to excess fat on my body  hihi...., but occassionally I would splurge on a pizza at Collina's (a restaurant here in Houston).

xoxoxoBruce 01-28-2010 12:49 AM

We've got tons of Mom & Pop pizza joints in this area, no need for cardboard. :headshake

Sundae 01-28-2010 03:49 AM

I used to work at Deep Pan Pizza.
I concur re the salad bar ;)

DanaC 01-28-2010 05:54 AM

I go through phases with Dominos. It's that one click ordering... dangerous.

There are a couple of their pizzas I really like.

monster 01-29-2010 08:51 AM

Today I visited a used book store I have traded with for years and picked up a new SIGNED copy of Diana Gabaldon's An Echo In The Bone. :D

I don't know if signed copies mean that much but it was a nice surprise to know after the purchase. Especially nice since the final price after trade in's only $12.

lumberjim 01-30-2010 10:10 AM

that's a good read.

skysidhe 01-30-2010 11:11 AM

I've read all of the prior and loved them all.

lumberjim 01-30-2010 08:48 PM

coming home after a 14 hour day to a house that smells like Oatmeal Cookies....

...and finding a Ginormous pot of Ham and Bean Soup on the stove too!?

all I need now is for there to be a Hot Chick up in my fortress of solitude getting drunk on twisted tea......

monster 01-30-2010 09:19 PM

It's not ham, it's squirrel.

Haggis!

My Grandad called me a diamond.
And Mum passed it on to me!
Two nice things for the price of one.

Grandad had stomach problems again (Mum & Dad are house-sitting). Which meant lots of washing and ironing again, and... yup, handling the family jewels for me. But hey - it seems to get easier!

Anyway, thanks to that and me making him a boiled egg sandwich (he's feeling a lot better today) I am Grand-daughter of the month. Even if the month ends today :)

Mum's pleased with me too and said so. I feel a bit of a fraud! It was nowhere near as bad as last time - in all senses.

glatt 01-31-2010 12:27 PM

My neighbors all seem to have bought their own snow shovels after the big storm last month, so I didn't have to loan ours out again after this moderate storm.

DanaC 01-31-2010 12:35 PM

Another day in a good mood :)

I am liking this. Granted it's a slightly manic good mood, but hey....fun whilst it lasts. This is like a whole week, or something, of good mood. The manic edge is slightly annoying my friends....but I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. IIt's like a cocaine rush, without the cocaine :P

jujuwwhite 01-31-2010 08:27 PM

Had a wonderful candle lite supper cooked by Capn and then of course some magnificient 'desert' before coming to work!

I think you've just explained my mother to me.

busterb 02-01-2010 10:05 PM

Life is good. No dog inside.
Don't have to get up early and let dog in & out Nē times a day. Not under my feet and following me around the house.
Not in kitchen begging for cheese, chips or trimmings. No prewash for dirty dishes. I could go on & on. You get the idea.

I'm SO full of crap.

classicman 02-01-2010 10:09 PM

I'm so sorry BB - I know how that feels.
I've been without too many years. I just am not around enough to take care of one anymore.

Nirvana 02-01-2010 10:44 PM

I wish I had a breed of dog for you Bb. One is too little and one is too big or I'd send one over =(

In keeping with this thread Victor went to puppy school tonite and he was very good and only peed on the floor once. :D He knows a new trick, around in a circle for a treat. :)

Yeah, so when you gonna do something about it? :eyebrow:

SamIam 02-02-2010 10:25 AM

I think there's a dog down at the shelter who would love to be adopted, Busterb.

classicman 02-02-2010 10:51 AM

I second that. I'm sure there are a few who could use a warm home and a loving owner.

Am talking with 3 shelters and 1 pound. The pound I'll visit tomorrow or next day. 1 shelter on Friday. Pound 10 bucks, shelter 75, but with all shots, spayed or whacked. 1 shelter even chips dog.

classicman 02-02-2010 01:01 PM

Great to hear BB - Let the chants begin . . .
We want pics
We want pics

What is it? A font?

And now that you know, what then?

Pie 02-03-2010 12:10 AM

Yes, it's a font.

Now I can re-make our banner if I need to. My father had done so years ago, but I had no idea what font he used. His old computer had been scrapped so I didn't have any scratch-work to go on.

Pete Zicato 02-03-2010 09:21 AM

Ah. Now it makes sense.

I was about to say that a font is not something I think of to make me happy, when I realized how often I have changed programming fonts. I'm always on the lookout for a better programming font.

Sundae 02-03-2010 03:25 PM

Booked my ticket to see JB in panto in Glasgow next year. Row D, fantastic!
Have also booked my B&B which is rated number one on TripAdvisor AND is close to the venue AND is cheaper than a hotel.

Have requested my European Health Insurance Card for Amsterdam (allows me to access state healthcare abroad), got the names of travel insurance companies as recommended by Which, sent off my passport application and am currently trawling internet guides and travellers sites for my itinerary.

Am feeling quite organised!

Pie 02-03-2010 03:28 PM

Okay. I've been meaning to ask this -- what's a 'panto'?

'Pantomime' to me means acting something out without speaking or making noise. Is that an art form in England?
