Clodfobble 06-18-2008 03:52 PM

I bought a whole stack of baby clothes from the local kid-stuff consignment store, but had enough credit in my account from previous sales to them that I didn't have to pay a dime for them. (And this despite my general policy of only selling things to them that I don't like, and hoarding all my good stuff in carefully organized bins in the closet for future children.)

Tulip 06-18-2008 11:17 PM

i won some money from the lotto today....just $20, but hey, it's still money :D

lookout123 06-20-2008 02:51 PM

Some of you may remember I had a very good client who passed away in December that had me kind of low. He was just a lonely old guy without a lot of contact with his family so I would frequently visit him even when there was no legitimate business reason. Today his daughter and grandchildren visited me which was a pleasant surprise. It was made even better when they explained that he had told them about our afternoons playing chess. They presented me with his very nice chess set and table. Very thoughtful.:)

Griff 06-20-2008 02:59 PM

Schools out fo the summer! I have a lot of work to do around the place but I am also going to bury myself in books.

Cicero 06-20-2008 03:08 PM

oh! That's great lookout!!

Sweet. :) That was a really nice gesture.

As for me!
A friend is coming into town for my birthday. It's been awhile since I've seen a close friend. I am way too excited! Almost manic! It's terrible! If I had a tail, it would be wagging. She'll be here in 5 hours! The time isn't passing! arrrgh!

lookout123 06-20-2008 03:14 PM

wag what you have. we'll imagine it with a tail, i promise.

HungLikeJesus 06-20-2008 03:18 PM

I just talked with my boss. He's sending me a new laptop.

I plan to have the current and new laptops connected to the big monitor, plus the keyboard and mouse, using a KVM switch.

BigV 06-20-2008 03:27 PM

Bully for you, l23, your good deed did not go unpunished.

As for myself, I'm happy to be going camping this weekend.

glatt 06-20-2008 03:37 PM

Friday afternoon.

Daughter's birthday tomorrow. We'll probably go for a hike in the morning and to the pool in the afternoon. School's out, so the kids will be excited.

Summer's almost here. The solstice is in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

freshnesschronic 06-20-2008 03:41 PM

So far, I really enjoy my golf internship in Chicago

I'm going down to U of I this weekend!!!!

DanaC 06-21-2008 05:23 PM

I just discovered some of the Doctor Who audio books on youtube :)

footfootfoot 06-21-2008 06:37 PM

I just dropped off a potatoes O' grady for my neighbors who just had a baby. They gave me a disc of photos of our balloon ride two weeks ago. Great great stuff, made me feel good all over again. Will post later.

Cloud 06-21-2008 11:00 PM

I love my family. That is all.

classicman 06-22-2008 12:37 AM

I had the best 2 days evahhhhhhh!!

lumberjim 06-22-2008 12:44 AM

we just had some exceptional sex. i feel good.

DucksNuts 06-22-2008 04:30 AM

I am waiting for jinx to back that up.

HungLikeJesus 06-22-2008 09:54 AM

What does jinx have to do with it?

SteveDallas 06-22-2008 10:28 AM

Yeah, really, he didn't say it was with jinx.

DucksNuts 06-23-2008 05:29 AM

He wouldnt still be posting if it wasnt with jinx...or his hand

Griff 06-23-2008 06:12 AM

Lil' Pete hung in with one of the best young fencers in the country yesterday, fighting back from an early deficit to keep the score decent. She took the loss as a growth experience and was total class. She also beat a older girl that she'd lost to (3x?) previously. I, however, was consistantly inconsistant.

Maybe the customer didn't know they were having sex. ;)

@ Griff, I'm sure you're glad it wasn't the other way round.

Griff 06-23-2008 11:59 AM

re: car dealer humor.... ouchy

Word. Just because I'm not allowed to live through my kids doesn't mean their accomplishments are not more important to me than my own.

DanaC 06-25-2008 07:32 PM

Good friends. I am surrounded by good friends.

HungLikeJesus 06-25-2008 08:12 PM

There's a little fox lying curled up in the driveway. I can see him from the window if I stand up.

A little while ago I saw a deer lying in the shade against the north end of the house. I opened a window to let a fly out and he was on the ground just below the window.

Do you think I'm using too much weed killer?

footfootfoot 06-25-2008 09:17 PM

morethanpretty 06-25-2008 09:21 PM

E-mails from a man I should have no interest in and certainly have no right to be drooling over.

Got my personalized license plates today!

BigV 06-27-2008 05:58 PM

We're all going camping this weekend!!!!

WOOOOHOOOOO!

Sundae 06-27-2008 06:31 PM

I've finished work, have £25 in my pocket that wasn't there earlier and am hoping for a lovely long lie-in tomorrow before getting up to do it all again!

(the only cloud on the horizon is HM's passing comment about cleaning the house tomorrow - which will be a very very good thing - I just hope he doesn't wallop around too much, too early)

Oh and if tomorrow goes well (Beach Party), John is planning a series of theme nights which will include a Singles Night ;)

glatt 06-28-2008 11:25 AM

I actually finished a home improvement project today.
That never happens. Normally I just start them.

Mounted "unmountable" speakers in the kitchen. Fished the wires through the walls and everything. They look and sound great! Had to make a bracket myself and take the speakers apart to mount them, then reassemble the things. But I'm done.

SteveDallas 06-28-2008 11:37 AM

I'm seriously impressed. I wouldn't even try fishing wires. Every time I've ever tried something involving making holes in walls it's ended very badly.

HungLikeJesus 06-28-2008 01:33 PM

We should have a forum devoted to projects started. I think there would be a lot of them unfinished.

Cloud 06-28-2008 03:28 PM

(good Cloud sits on the horizon).

If I were really clever, I'd do an image to go with this.

but I'm not.

Griff 06-28-2008 04:19 PM

I have a feeling Tony will be breaking out the ugly stick on the "progress" thread. I have a warm sense of anticipation.

Sundae 06-28-2008 06:08 PM

Again, back from work.
Picked up £50 for 7.5 hours work tonight. Doesn't make sense compared to the £20 I'll get for 4 hours tomorrow, but hey - I'm not complaining!

Had I been wearing socks I would have worked them off tonight.
But I love that kind of hard work.
I mean it, I really love the feeling of immediate reaction of bar-work. I suppose it's my replacement for being on stage. You get a response from strangers. And I like pushing myself - being better, being faster, being more accurate but still being friendly, making sure you remember it is the customer's night out, they deserve a good time.

Tomorrow is different again - not noisy, not crowded, but lots of rounds (you get rounds, right?) with little recognition from the customers.
We get a lot of drop-in Sunday drinkers who are there with their families/ old friends and don't acknowledge what you do for them. So you work at being part of the background and emerging to serve them the second they require it and decode their orders for them (ie a white wine spritzer for this lady means wine and lemonade, a whiskey and diet coke for this man is a Jack Daniels, no ice and a can of Diet Coke, not the generic stuff from the tap)

And I was happy with how I looked tonight! I didn't get to take any pictures of myself, and James only took one of me, but I'll upload it if it's okay. (it got busy within 30 mins of me arriving and I spent that time bottling up) But going by the compliments I did okay.

I love to feel tired but happy.

Undertoad 06-28-2008 06:43 PM

Oh man I don't know if I will come through for you there G. I can't figure out exactly how to play it; do we want this guy to stick with us so we can borg out something interesting from him? Or is he just a pseudo-intellectual poseur in the manner of some of our least-interesting users?

lookout123 06-28-2008 06:53 PM

Right now my jedi sense is telling me he falls into category 2. He just reminds me of so many college sophomores who read their psych and sociology books while high and think they are the enlightened few.

Sundae 06-28-2008 07:06 PM

He says he's 74.

bluecuracao 06-28-2008 07:15 PM

After many months, wi-fi is working in my living room! I'm not sure how long it'll last, but I'm enjoying while I can. I sure miss you guys--guess I have a lot of reading to do now to catch up.

Sundae 06-28-2008 07:19 PM

Raaaaah! Blue!
Glad you're here x

and in a chatroom somewhere right now someone is insisting they're a 19 year old SWF from philadelphia...

xoxoxoBruce 06-29-2008 12:54 AM

I don't think so... my take; In his 40's, after being an engineer for +-25 years, he discovered a whole other world, apart from engineering discipline. Now, at 74, having surfed the outlines of different subjects, feels enlightened and lonely, so is making an effort to find an appreciative crowd. Unfortunately, he doesn't realize how much we know, or that for every subject he's dabbled in, there are people with in depth experience that will dismiss him as a poser.

Think elderly TW.;)

DanaC 06-29-2008 06:23 AM

I get the impression he's someone who craves a deep philosophical discussion.

Cicero 06-29-2008 08:31 AM

Ok I have no idea what's going on. I'm not here for 2 days and people are talking over my head already.

Nevermind.......found it!

Griff 06-29-2008 09:37 AM

Cic- we've got a new poster who wants to change the world because its easier than changing himself.

Initially, I thought he was a salesman for the independent Duchy of Stan or some such. If he would answer a response specifically with his own words, he could be interesting, but I don't believe he will.

BigV 06-30-2008 12:39 PM

Tink!

lookout123 06-30-2008 02:01 PM

although my knee is still more trashed than healthy, my friday team was coming up short for players. So i played keeper. turns out i'm not too bad at it. gave me a good feeling to know that if my legs go i can still play for a bit after that.

Sundae 06-30-2008 06:17 PM

It's my birthday.
I've made my mind up to be happy.
And I have good friends.

Yay!

Cloud 06-30-2008 07:31 PM

My birthday again (sorry)
Everyone has out-done themselves. I'm glad I made my mind up to be happy but I barely needed to.

HM had a card waiting for me on the living room table this morning, thereby abiding by my family's correct form for birthdays - cards are there on the morning of the day. Really, really special because his family do not have this "rule" and he does not even celebrate his own birthday.

Then, my boss made a special trip in to deliver the most beautiful roses - totally delicious. And a card (see above) She's not in all day, and neither are many of the other staple office staff. But a card from her signed on behalf of the team is twice as special as a card circulated and signed by all because it shows she thought (and worried) about me feeling left out. It's my job to get cards sorted usually you see.

And my bro's card & present arrived today - late compared to when he posted it, but I know it's not his fault and I got it on the day. AND as my token present he bought me Ass-Kickin Popcorn. I am currently inching my way through it. My arse will be well and truly kicked tomorrow I reckon.

Cards and well wishing in the Cellar has also made my day.

Everyone has really thought about me, and I've had some amazing personal thoughts/ cards/ gifts/ gestures this year and it's really made me feel special. Thank you.

limey 07-01-2008 04:14 PM

Keep a hold of that special feeling SG - it's how we here in the Cellar think of you every day!
Happy [rest of your] birthday!

DanaC 07-01-2008 05:47 PM

That's cause you are special hon:)
