Love seeing you happy. That's one of the very few times I've seen you smile that much.
Really good. That even makes me happy :) |
Where is your left hand? http://cellar.org/2012/nono.gif

Fantabulosa, Mr UT!
I love Rocky Horror, and sod the people who think it's just for obsessed teens. I was an obsessed teen obsessed with it (the film) but over the years got to appreciate that Richard O'Brian actually did a bang tidy job on the soundtrack. My lovely bro bought me a compilation CD set for birthday or Christmas one year, and I could hear the changes through the different years. Lost or sold or lent out now sadly. I agree that even a poor musical sounds better live. And this is a musical designed to be belted out. I've seen it a few times live now, and if it was close and I had the £ I'd be back there no question. |
Three shows down and audience participation really changes from show to show... it's very interesting. Every live show is different, that's one of the amazing things about drama. And here every show is *very* different, depending on whether people in the audience know lines, and how drunk they are. It's so wild to hear audience members get laugh lines. So great to hear them get into it. It makes me so happy when they are into it.
J swears our Rocky had half a chubby for part of his midnight performance. You don't have to be *that* dedicated to the role... |
Or that dedicated an audience member, tsk tsk, fixated on Rocky's half chubby. Such a pervert, no wonder you two get on so well. :lol2:
Uh oh, you embarrassed her, you're in trouble, time for make-up sex. Used to watch Rocky on TV every Halloween. So sad/angry when they stopped showing it. But happy when I found out they stopped because CBS-FOX bought it, and it was coming out in limited numbers on VHS. I plunked down $93(1990 dollars), to preorder for the first day of the release... and we did the Time Warp again, we did the Time Warp again... |
One of my favourite movies of all time. I would have been 17 or so when I saw it first time. I still get a kick out of it all these years later.
|
Movie-goers, imagine this:
- The third gasp from the audience is the reveal of Brad during the floor show. (First gasp the reveal of Frank, second gasp the reveal of Rocky) In the movie it's like nothing, and we've already seen him in his skivvies, but live... whole different feel to it. And the fourth gasp is Dr. Scott's reveal moments later (under that blanket...) - "I'm Going Home" gets massive, thunderous applause. It's the big number. - Subtle, funny line dropped from the movie script: they are searching for the escaped Rocky, and Riff Raff finds Rocky and Janet together in the "lab". He announces: "I've located him... in the female's quarters, master." |
What a great experience!
I'm having a good time just reading about your good time. |
Me, too.
|
My brother got to see his wife's (maybe then-to-be wife's, can't remember) first reaction to Frank. Because he grew up with me, he grew up with Rocky Horror. I even told him when to close his eyes, because I thought the exy-sexy bits would embarrass him.
But they saw Frank in all his glory at a theme park. Not even in the bizarre context of the film. Talk about W T F!!! |
County finally closed on mine and Sis's house and little dab of land.
I have a living will to stay till I bite the dust. |
Awesome, Buster.
|
Good news!
|
Now you have to watch your back Buster.
|
Just cos it started in this thread
Last night we had a replacement drummer, as our regular was booked elsewhere. And while it's a bummer to deal with a replacement drummer, who plays the show differently, in this case it was the drummer from the Allman Bros tribute band "Live at the Fillmore East" so he was very good. (I had a shot to be in that band, but was recommended for it a week after they had already found a bass player. It's not a brag, if you only had a shot.) Last night two shows, 8pm and midnight, and the theater company made a big mistake having three midnight shows in this run. All the 8pm shows are sold out; only a third of the seats were occupied yesterday at midnight. I personally don't care what the audience size is (it's not the size that matters), and would have gone full energy even if it was only to one person. The audience still gave a standing O to "I'm Going Home". But I did spot a few points where the cast only gave 109% and not the usual 110%. |
lazy bastards :)
|
Good for you T! I'm liking all this good news I'm hearing from you lately. You deserve it :)
|
That is nice of you to say, sir you are and remain an officer and a gentleman.
|
Is there any chance we might get a video of any part of this show?
Is it over now? Will there be other gigs coming from this source? |
That would be cool but I bet there is a rights issue.
|
There's finally something in the works to help people sort through their old stored images:

Behind the scenes matter that all these community theater groups pay good money for the rights to put on these shows. Which in turn is why none of the actors or musicians get paid. Quote:
I've proven myself to be a very reliable musician to two music directors. The problem with me is that I don't read music. I prepare in advance and learn the entire show. I'm sure the director and music director of this show would bring me back instantly for any project, but I'm not a good candidate to show up and say, I would like to be your bass player for this run of "Hello Dolly". And I don't think I want to spend a few weeks learning all the music for "Hello Dolly". However my guitarist is very involved in one of the theater groups, and knows which shows have been chosen for next season, and has basically informed me that I will be doing "Rent" in the Spring. It's a non-lame show so I will probably do it. The opportunities to make live music dry up as we get older. |
(Learning to read music is not so difficult ....)

I would have to learn the fretboard too apparently
I understand the notes have letters... but they only use like 7 letters and I KNOW there are more notes than that |
Spend a week in our house, bring your guitar and we'll sort you out! X

Best offer ever, plus you guys play instruments where you only play one note at a time, which is best.
|
Sorted. See you soon!

Ooh, "sorted" by Mr & Mrs Limey. Kinky.

Even I can read music, it's not that hard, you can do it :)
|
If I can do it, anybody can.
|
...and the thing is, I can read it but do bugger all about it.
Oh the places you'll go, Undertoad..... Oh the places you'll go, There is Fun to be done There are songs to be scored, a bass to be strummed And the magical things you can do with those strings Will make you the winning-est bassist for sings Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be With the whole wide world watching you win on TV :D |
Very nice pome monsuess. Just change strummed to plucked
|
Oh wait. Then you'd have to change done to something that rhymes with plucked
|
Maybe thumbed instead of plucked
|
Can you link the venue ticket source again? I might could make the Friday show
|
One car
Two car Red car Blue car. Black car Blue car Old car New car. This one smells of dried up pish. This one smells of rotting fish. Say! What a lot Of cars there are. Yes. Some are red. And some are blue. Some are old. And some are new. Some are sad. And some are glad. And some are very, very bad. Why are they Sad and glad and bad? I do not know. Go ask Ip’s dad. LumberJim. And some know him. The fat one with The chick who’s slim. From there to here, from here to there, Funny cars Are everywhere. |

However.... only midnight is left. A third sold now, I think it will wind up over half full? Maybe more now that the 8pm shows are sold, I don't know how these last weekends sell. It'll be enough to have fun. If you decide to go, I would not suggest front row as it is really close to the actors. Of course there is some advantage to that in this show |
And don't forget the toast. :haha:
|
|
That was really moving. Thanks for posting, Grav.

:thumb: Excellent.

Things is generally grim.
Otis is still ill (I have made a considered decision NOT to put him in for further treatment, which I question every day) Auntie Joyce is dead. I'm waiting for a call from Mum which may say Christmas is cancelled. I've had no electricity for 24 hours. BUT The sun is shining. I am going somewhere warm and safe with a shower on Sunday. I have hope. And my Doctor has still not contacted me re my last blood test (one which had to be redone) so there is no way there can be anything wrong, as it's been a week. And I'm here in the warm and the light and feeling positive. Which I know doesn't match my opening lines, but I really do. |
Good for you, Sundae. I'm usually a grump during the whole holiday season, but your outlook has helped cheer mine. We'll be smiley in the face of stress together. :)
|
Got a postcard today from Billy, came from Stockholm where he was playing tourist. :thumb:
|
Cool! Thanks for letting us know about him.
|
You're had no electricity? Ah hell, that sucks. Is that your heat?

The school year only has another couple of weeks to go here, so I'm looking forward to a nice long summer holiday with the kids. Hopefully they wont drive me too crazy. :) On a positive note, we're looking after a friends house while they're away for the whole time (collecting mail, tidying the gardens, feeding the fish etc) and they have a pool which we can use every day if we want, so that will be nice. :)
|
Oh and something else I'm happy about. The sinus infection that had me by the balls seems to have responded very well to the antibiotics I got on Monday. I was even able to have a glass of wine last night after a 2 week drought!
|
Excellent, the ladies' duct tape is back on the menu. :thumb:
|
Family are on their way from DC, house is clean, and I made it to Walmart before closing to get extra toothbrushes (because somebody always forgets one) and odds and ends. Truffles for the pillows! You'd think I was running a bed & breakfast. Can you tell I'm excited?
|
Sounds like your running for Hostess-with-the-Mostess, which is impossible to win because...family. Just keep in mind it's them, not you. ;)
|
Our Thanksgiving run around is starting a little later this year so coffee and cellar!
Thanks be to Tony btw. |
What a nice lazy morning this is today!

In truth, though, I agree. I've been cooking for a few hours, but everything's casual and on-schedule, and the kids are staying quiet upstairs. And my new blueberry pie recipe is turning out fucking awesome. |
Whoever is cooking would be glatt's wife's cousin. We are headed over there in two hours. Just finished throwing the nerf football around for half an hour. Good times.

Life's little pleasure, easy not to even notice. Got a box of gifts I'd ordered from The Library of Congress gift shop. To take up the extra space in the box instead of those vile peanuts, the plastic pillows, or crumpled newspapers, they crumpled up one of their shopping bags. It's a big one with two handles, a piece of cardboard in the bottom to keep it's shape, plasticized for water proof, with a nice bookcase design. Definitely a usable item. See, it doesn't take much to amuse the feeble minded.:D

Lil late, but my new job. Its been fantastic helping people and getting out of the high-pressure of advertising sales. It was always something I was good at, but never really enjoyed. Especially since Dan's accident, it was all about the money and that wasn't even there really.
Well on Monday my new boss, also a good friend for about 6-8 years, asked me what I was doing mid January. I was like, nothing planned at this point. He then tells me there is an HVAC conference with one of our largest suppliers happening and he wants me to go and represent our company. I was thinking it was in the Dakotas or Iowa -somewhere like that because that is where a lot of the companies are headquartered. He then tells me its a 5 day 6 night event at an all expenses paid resort in Cancun! Totally floored me. I'm still not sure I believe him even though I got my flight info this morning. |
