OH, on the downside, my GF cannot go with. So my oldest on has graciously volunteered to sacrifice his time and go with me. This could be EPIC!

Oh I know of the legendary busterb cooking skills, for sure. But I suspect that any redneck recipe includes things like butter and sugar, if not whiskey. :)

They've been doing some kind of major utility upgrade in my neighborhood for the last several months. Laying fiber? I dunno. The point is, for the last week or so they've been in and out of my backyard specifically. And now they are doing something with the little pole-in-the-ground-doohickey that involves digging around it, and in order to do that they are having to clear out most of the horrible crappy overgrowth that's taken over that portion of the yard.
Yessss.... Our eight-year "just ignore it" plan is finally coming to fruition... |

Wait'll they bill you for it.

I'm out of hospital.
Bad news is I have to go back in, in approx 2 weeks to have some more banding of my varices (Wiki link SFW but has internal photo which might be considered grim and/ or look like something else!) and this will continue until they are all gone. But at least I will not be woken up at 04.00 for a blood test, or at 06.45 to have my blood pressure/ temperature taken. The good thing about hospital of course is that it is clean, warm, light and you get three meals a day with no cooking or washing up. But after eight days I was pretty much ready to leave. |
Glad to have you back, Sundae!
|
I'm glad your back too.
|
Excellent!
|
How many times will you have to have that banding done? Or don't they know. Hopefully they'll get every thing squared away soon. In spite of all the upsides you mentioned, it's still nice to get home where you can scratch any itch without checking to see if anyone's watching.
8 days? Nope, no way. Well one way, unconscious. Other than that, I have witnesses who can attest to after three days I become quite unpleasant. Really, I know it's had to imagine but it's true. Picture ripping out an IV, and telling the nurse on the desk, "If anybody is looking for me, I went home", as I walked by. |
Is it wrong that I'm happy my little kids are leaving for a holiday with their father for a week starting in about half an hour?
I am anyway. I need a break. After I delivery the wedding order I have for Saturday, I don't have anything else to do till the following Thursday, which means 4 days of slothing around mostly. I might even go get a pedicure. |
If they don't leave, you don't get that huggy-poo, kissy-face, party when they return. ;)

It is - another reason to be grateful!

Welcome back Sundae!

Glad you're out, Sundae!
And Ali - take the upcoming days and enjoy. Don't feel guilty for even one second. |

I had Christmas drinks with a couple of my girlfriends over the weekend. Life has been busy for all of us over the last 6 months or so, and we haven't seen too much of each other (although I did go on a brief 2 day weekend holiday with one of them) so it was really good to catch up. I've known these girls since high school, and they say that childhood friends will always be able to know you better than the friends you make in adulthood. I find that to be true with these girls. I think because they knew me as a teenager; a time when we're all just starting to get a sense of who we might become and what sort of things motivate us; so it was good to talk about everything with them. We all lost touch after HS and reconnected a few years ago at a HS reunion. Even though we weren't really that close in HS, we have discovered that we're pretty good friends as old farts.
Who ever would have thought that could happen. So anyway, I'm glad I have these girls in my life. I hope they're glad they have me. |
That's cool :)
|
Old friends are nice. The added history also gives you added trust. Like they already saw you in your awkward times and they know you saw theirs, so blackmail keeps everyone equal. :)

...drinks with Ali and a couple of her girlfriends...
Be right back...I got to, uh, go do something....;) |

Well it was only Char's partner waiting on us. He seemed to enjoy taking the photos anyway. :)

Ali, you and your friends look marvs.
Wish I was there! Making me happy today, a lovely card I received from my post-lady. Some background: I don't have a doorbell, and live two floors up, so I can't hear anyone knocking on the door, unless they are very persistent and even then I have to be listening out for it to assume it's for me, as I live on a busy road with people going in and out of offices, slamming car doors, decanting from tourist coaches etc. This means that anything that does not fit through my letterbox has to go back to the Sorting Office and although that's close, it isn't available for collection for 24 hours - longer if it's a Saturday. So from about Easter this year, Karen took to leaving anything which she knew wouldn't fit through my letterbox in the Sorting Office, and leaving a card to say it was available for collection immediately. This is not correct protocol, but meant I was able to receive items from eBay or Amazon much more quickly. Ditto when my Mum sends me helium balloons. So as it's Christmas, and it (used to be) traditional to tip your binmen and postie, I took a box of biscuits into the Sorting Office and also sent Karen a card with a small token in. Being me, I also wrote in it that she had made living away from friends and family much easier and I really appreciated her kindness. Came down today to find a card from her in return. She knew I'd been in hospital (I had someone come and collect my post, and he went to the Sorting Office to collect something, explaining I was ill) and wished me good health. She thanked me and said I'd made her day. She offered her best wishes if I was travelling over Christmas (knowing I'm an immigrant in Yorkshire terms.) Bless her. I almost want to send her another card to thank her for her card thanking me for my card. Don't worry, I won't. I never see the binmen - in fact I have real issues with dealing with disposing of rubbish, so they get nothing. But I'm so glad I made her and the staff who I see at least weekly when I collect my items, happy. |
Sundae, you are a very giving person. You give even when you don't have much yourself. This is a quality I could use about 400 tons more of. (edit: meaning I should exhibit more of that quality, not that I want to receive more of that quality...or, er...do I even make sense? You know what I mean.)
Thanks for the card you sent. It's very cute and very sweet. I was really surprised, and it made me smile. I don't have a ton of time while cow orker is at lunch but I wanted to say thank you...I will be writing you a PM, but I thought I should acknowledge it here, too, though everyone already knows, how kind you are. Merry Christmas to you and yours. :santa: |
^^What she said.^^ All of it.

I am waiting for my friends, the guy part a sober driver, to pick me up for festivities. I go out my front door and to what do my wondering eyes appear? A FedEx package! Inside is the promised book that I can't wait to begin reading. And it was wrapped in star paper with my name in silver!
Friends make lonely people happy. Thanks jim. :) Merry Christmas to you all, with love. |
Merry Christmas, shaw!

Merry Christmas. |
Ah, there's good news tonight.
Westerleigh Crematorium & Cemetery, in the South Gloucestershire countryside, is the first in Britain to have a fully licensed bar. A long overdue reconciliation with, and recognition of, the Irish living... and dying, in Britain. At last the |

If you can't be bothered to watch all 22 minutes, check out the helicopter flight at 12:32. The helicopter came to pick them up from Mt. Nirvana and take them to Lotus Flower Tower, but they had a little trouble finding Lotus Flower Tower and then a place to land.
And 18:35, time lapse of packing up camp in the fog is pretty cool. |
Very Good.

I'm off to a job interview in a few minutes. probably minimum wage and PT w/ no bennys but even dwarves started small.
More to follow, perhaps. |
Good luck, Foot!
I'll check out the mountain conquering sister later tonight. |
Somehow I must have missed the original post about your sister, glatt. That's a cool accomplishment.
|
How did your interview go foot?
|
I think it went well, they seemed receptive to me and it felt like a good fit to me, at any rate. They are going to talk with another person and then let me know next week. I'd be the oldest person by far, maybe about the same age as the owner.
If I do get the job it's going to complicate life for a while until I get custody changes sorted out, and it's only a little better than minimum wage. I'd need to work three weeks to make my mortgage payment, and while it would be good to be able to keep the house, I clearly need to come up with additional income b/c I couldn't afford to live on my earnings from that job alone. They did say that if I worked out and was valuable I'd get raises. The benefits are pretty good, though. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. |
