Hell to the YES!

It's going to be 90 with 2,000 % humidity by friday. Oh yes, that's what I said. 2,000 %. and if you don't believe me, you've never been to Ohio in the summer. It sucks, sucks, sucks sucks. (that last one was for emphasis). It feels like fooking Tehran or Vietnam or any other 'am you can come up with. Wilting, ass-itching, drenching weather. I shall keep my home at a respectable 65 degrees until December when I'll just open up the windows.

Oh, cost? 3400. yikes.

So what you are saying is that the low pressure system in Ohio causes the high humidity? That's actually got some merit to it.

Sundae 06-16-2009 12:51 PM

Hoy!
Read back and see my cat caught a bird!

I am expecting cards and such.

DanaC 06-16-2009 01:36 PM

It is a metallic Rootbeer brown. They only made 1400 this year in that color.

Yea, I got the big seat in the back for me.:D Oh, and a nice back rest. :D

Sundae 06-16-2009 03:10 PM

I'd just like to say that the savage hunter is currently kipping on the pile of spare bedding in the corner of this room (the spare room).

He wants kipski, and he knows he won't get it on my lap while I'm online. Doesn't stop him being on here during the day - just that he's more serious gone 20.00. But he won't go into my room, given the choice. Noooooo, he's gotta be spitting distance.

Feeling much love for the babba today. And it is making me happy.

OH! Almost forgot to say - got my prepaid credit card through today! Immediately went to Tesco to try it out. Well....
No really, I need the exercise (walk to big Tesco - 1 hour 15 min round trip) and I had to load the card with credit to activate it. I spent less than £10, on things I needed anyway. Really needed I mean, not hair-dye & pizza.
It was SO exciting, putting my card in the slot and entering my PIN number. They didn't have chip & pin last time I had a card.

Shawnee123 06-16-2009 03:19 PM

I've been letting Gaines out at night. I wake up a few times a night anyway, and check the door to see if he's back yet. I don't know what he's doing out there, but I hope he doesn't try to catch the big snapping turtle I keep seeing around.

DanaC 06-16-2009 06:31 PM

An old school friend got in touch :) havent spoken in years and years. Good ol' Facebook:P

She sounds really happy. Working freelance as a designer (she always was an arty bugger *chuckles*) married with a gorgeous 3 year old son. She wants to get together (with a couple of other old schoolies) for a drink. Sounds like a plan! Just need to sort out overnight arrangements as they're all still on the other side of the Pennines.

Also heard (again Facebook) from my old Maths teacher. He's retired now and about to be a Grandad for the first time. Bad arthritis, but other than thathe sounds pretty chilled with life. He's been rebuilding classic motors. *Smiles* He used to terrorise the class....but I babysat his kid, so I knew he was a pussycat really lol. Got mega kudos for not being scared of him :P

Shawnee123 06-16-2009 08:23 PM

Very cool, Dana.

I babysat for two different teachers' kids. My mom showed me a picture (from the Strawberry Festival!) in the newspaper of little red-headed girl triplets (maybe two years old, a little less?) who are the children of one of those little kids I used to babysit! What?

:)

DanaC 06-16-2009 08:30 PM

Oh dont. lol. J's kid sister has her 18th next month....I remember her naming ceremony.

DanaC 06-17-2009 08:14 AM

Pending confirmation from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, I have been selected by the School of History as one of their four candidates for a full fees and full maintenance grant scholarship. This the one. The Biggie. I am so pleased.

ZenGum 06-17-2009 08:15 AM

glatt 06-17-2009 08:16 AM

Way to go, Dana! That excellent!

DanaC 06-17-2009 08:23 AM

I am sooooo happy. Soooo fucking happy. There was a lot of competition for those four nominations.

classicman 06-17-2009 08:25 AM

outstanding - congrats!

DanaC 06-17-2009 08:28 AM

Tankee:) :) :)

limey 06-17-2009 09:40 AM

Oh crikey, Dana! Well bloody done, mate!

DanaC 06-17-2009 09:45 AM

Thankyou:)

I am now all fired up for my research again. Just been checking out some secondary source materials to gen up on military structures and so forth. I did a module last year on it, but really need a more technical bent now. Fortunately my MA supervisor is still around (hasnt gone off for his hols yet) and he has some belting suggestions. Also been mucking about at the national Archives site. Seems most of the records I need are down at Kew, so may have to wait til I can get down there for a research trip. Got some excellent 18th C newspaper notices of deserters online though.

(of course this is less helpful for catching up on my dayjob work...lol)

Sundae 06-17-2009 10:23 AM

Dani that's amazing, and goes to confirm what we all know about you - you're a true scholar.

SteveDallas 06-17-2009 11:02 AM

Way to go Dana!

I finally persuaded amanda to do what I wanted.

dar512 06-17-2009 12:46 PM

Big cheers and a round of applause. Well done, Dana.

Queen of the Ryche 06-17-2009 01:37 PM

Way to go Dana!!!

Shawnee123 06-17-2009 02:43 PM

Awesome Dana! Wooohooooo!!!!

DanaC 06-17-2009 03:03 PM

Thanks guys:) You were the first people I told:)

Sundae 06-17-2009 04:16 PM

Small beer compared to yours, but I've just found the missing tape measure.
Yay!
Diz must have batted it under the printer, can't imagine how it ended up there otherwise.

Its inexplicable disappearance has been puzzling me for DAYS!

DanaC 06-17-2009 04:27 PM

lol oh I totally get that. Nothing winds me up more than losing stuff. I obsess for weeks sometimes until I find it.

This is one of the reasons I love America -you can return stuff to the stores for a refund without reason. So if I lose stuff, I pop down to Walmart, buy a replacement and bingo! When I get home the missing item reappears in a very obvious place. So I use it, nail it down for next time and return the unused product :D

DanaC 06-17-2009 07:08 PM

Really? That's awesome. No having to prove it wasnt 'of merchantable quality'?

SteveDallas 06-17-2009 08:09 PM

Yeah, with some exceptions, most stores here take returns pretty liberally.

Aliantha 06-17-2009 08:35 PM

I found some sleeping aids that should help little Max.

and then some. If I shop for beest clothes and ain't sure about the sizing, I buy the one I think and one either side on the credit card, take them home for him to try and then return the other two which will get credited back to the card same billing cycle. shopping American rocks.

Clodfobble 06-17-2009 09:40 PM

My stepmom used to do clothes for me that way when I was a kid, because I hated shopping. She'd go pick out ten dresses, bring them home for me to try on, and return 8-9 of them the next day.

monster 06-17-2009 09:50 PM

it works.

SteveDallas 06-17-2009 09:55 PM

It's a nice strategy if it works. If we did that with my daughter we'd be taking all 10 of them back!

TheMercenary 06-17-2009 09:57 PM

I turned down the bike today.

DanaC 06-17-2009 09:57 PM

Why what did it propose?

TheMercenary 06-17-2009 09:59 PM

It proposed nothing. The dealer, however, proposed that I take it home.

monster 06-17-2009 10:00 PM

why does that make you happy?

TheMercenary 06-17-2009 10:04 PM

Because they didn't make troll bikes. They are all way to big for my short boney legs. And besides, they didn't come with billy goat trailers.

Aliantha 06-17-2009 10:05 PM

lol...now that's funny! Billy goat trailers...HA!

Aliantha 06-17-2009 10:42 PM

I just made a reservation at this restaurant for dinner on Saturday night and we'll be going to this bar for cocktails beforehand.

We're having a girls night, and a couple of us are staying in the city overnight. It'll be the first time I've been away from Max for more than 3 hours since he was born. I think I'll miss him a lot.

Pie 06-17-2009 10:53 PM

Sorry I'm so late to the party, but wow! Congratulations, Dana!

DanaC 06-17-2009 11:03 PM

Thanks Pie :)

Oh and you'll have a good time Ali. You probabl will miss him...but you'll still have a lovely time with the gang:)

Shawnee123 06-18-2009 05:53 AM

It'll be good to get away for a little while, I bet, Ali.

What time should I be there? ;)

DanaC 06-18-2009 08:18 AM

Oh oh oh! I've been summoned for jury duty *hops up and down* I feel like a proper citizen!

Trilby 06-18-2009 08:45 AM

They are installing my central air RIGHT NOW!

DanaC 06-18-2009 08:54 AM

Cool beans!

glatt 06-18-2009 08:55 AM

and not a moment too soon.

Undertoad 06-18-2009 08:55 AM

Air conditioning is the finest invention ever known to mankind.

TheMercenary 06-18-2009 08:55 AM

Leaving for Las Vegas in the am for National Rugby Tourny. Not looking forward to the plane flight or the heat.

DanaC 06-18-2009 08:55 AM

Not much call for it around here ;) Central heating....now that's a gift from the Gods!

[eta] oh. have great fun Merc!

Hats off to John Gorrie. There was an article on him in the Smithsonian a while back.

Sundae 06-18-2009 12:43 PM

Jealous of the jury duty, Dana.
I've been called up once, and it was for the week I was scheduled to move from London to Leicester.
I've wanted to serve since I was 16!

Happy tonight - Psychoville starts. 22.00 on BBC2 for those able to watch.
Okay, I've already seen it, but I get to record it this time, and rewatch and rewatch when the 'rents go away next week.

Alo,o my pottery class soothed me today.
I was dreaded this Thursday and yet I left counselling (morning) and pottery (afternoon) in a better state than I went in. I think I'd like to continue this when my OT weeks are done.

It's not on next week. And my councellor is off too (although I'm having a fill-in session with someone there I've spoken to before). So after feeling the gloom of Thursday approaching all week, I am disappointed it's not happening next week! Still, it should make me look forward to the week after more.

I'm going to be doing painting :)

Trilby 06-18-2009 02:55 PM

As the whore said to the virgin, "IT'S IN!"

I'm not turning this baby off till there's frost on my windows.
