We just saw Parasite. Fantastic movie. Go see it.

Griff 11-02-2019 09:18 PM

We just saw Motherless Brooklyn, adult entertainment.

My son just got his first college acceptance today!

Get this: The University of Mary Washington, a decent school, and a safety for him, came to his high school to do interviews, and the deal was, they would tell you on the spot at the interview if you were in or not. So we just got a text from him that he's in.

No details on financial aid or anything like that, so I guess the paperwork is still coming, but my baby is off to college!

limey 11-22-2019 11:15 AM

Woo HOO!

Clodfobble 11-22-2019 11:51 AM

Yay!

Diaphone Jim 11-22-2019 12:15 PM

"I Love Lucy" connection with UMW.

Gravdigr 11-22-2019 02:56 PM

I would ask what you mean, but you probably don't know.

BigV 11-22-2019 03:05 PM

Ok, boomer.

OMG, finding out big stars dress just like me.

Clodfobble 11-23-2019 09:45 AM

Okay but to be fair, those clothes are often given freely to celebrities so they can act as a walking advertisement. Anyone nominated for an Oscar gets a gift bag of designer merchandise worth six figures.

The people you want to scoff at are the rich-but-not-famous who spend this kind of cash because they want to be just like the celebrities.

xoxoxoBruce 11-23-2019 11:02 AM

That's true, otherwise the picture would not have been captioned with all that information. I had to copy the caption information over because the caption was unreadable when shrunk to the acceptable width for posting here.

Yes, I wonder about people who buy that stuff. Do they feel they're getting their money's worth? Do they think the public notices or cares? Do they wish the tags were on the outside? Do they know red states buy Wranglers and blue states Levis?

limey 11-23-2019 12:17 PM

The first public performance of the Oban Brass Quintet is what's making me happy. The awesome power of social meeja found three other crazy brass players of the right instruments within a reasonable distance of our nearest big town to add to Mr Limey and me and we met and rehearsed last Friday and did a public gig (Christmas carols at a food and crafts market) today. It's not about the carols, but about the fact that by great serendipity we like each other and are of approximately the same playing ability and we all want to meet once a month and play stuff.
I'm made up, I truly am.

Undertoad 11-23-2019 12:53 PM

That post made me very happy. Well done limey!

We have a "What is it thread?" and a "Who is it thread?.

Think of this as "What is the connection?"
It is just kind of a joke.

Hot damn, after wandering the wilderness you've found your tribe. That's fantastic, more important than the rabble appreciating your skills.

Did they give you exercises to do, like big rubber bands on a door knob to pull and stuff?

Spatchcocking still sounds a little dirty.

That's why I like it...:D

Clodfobble 12-17-2019 05:14 PM

From my copyeditor (i.e., professional Grammar Nazi):

"The author’s attention to factual details like proper nouns, etc., was particularly exact, and left me with fewer changes and queries than I can remember having to make in a long time."

This is the kind of compliment I live for. :joylove:

glatt 12-17-2019 08:07 PM

Very nice!

xoxoxoBruce 12-17-2019 10:14 PM

If you do it all the time, and I'll bet you do, they'll come to expect it rather than appreciate it.
Be sure to throw in one editor cringing zinger.

Griff 12-18-2019 06:07 AM

I'm not sure Clod would risk that slipping through to print!

glatt 12-18-2019 06:27 AM

It occurs to me that the editor was probably annoyed because it looked to the boss like they had done nothing. So they needed to write something to explain the lack of their own work product.

Clodfobble 12-20-2019 08:44 AM

Heh... He did get me on a couple of factual errors--but at least two of them were taken directly from an American Heritage textbook! We're talking geographical place names, and family trees of famous politicians. Moral of the story, don't trust American Heritage books from the 60s.

Clodfobble 12-20-2019 09:55 AM

And I just found an error that the copyeditor missed!

MWAHAHA I AM UNSTOPPABLE!

Griff 12-20-2019 04:40 PM

I'm happy because my resignation was effective 12/20.

glatt 12-20-2019 04:41 PM

Congratulations!

Undertoad 12-20-2019 04:48 PM

Would that be 12/20/2020?

Congratulations!

Griff 12-20-2019 05:41 PM

Thanks fellas! 12/20/19 (merica style) to be clear.

That means you are unemployed for Christmas, we'll have to take up a collection to buy gruel. ;)

I'll just shoot a deer or something... says the guy who makes almost half as much as his wife on a good year

Clodfobble 12-21-2019 03:03 PM

I'm happy that Griff is happy.

lumberjim 12-21-2019 03:46 PM

You didn't say retirement.... What's next?

Other than less hate in your belly I mean

BigV 12-21-2019 11:24 PM

I don't know why I've intentionally bypassed this thread. #masochist

You all are members of my extended-family-of-choice #pikachu (I choose you!)

Seeing your happy activates my happy. I like happy. #nohashtag

I'm sitting here in the tub, delicately pecking out my reply on my phone... When I got in, I thought ooooohhhhhhh, what a shameful waste to *not* indulge/partake benefits from what I'm ALREADY PAYING FOR. Why would I skip a day!?!? #humblebrag #sorry #sorrynotsorry

Then to see the happy of my friends..

That's what's making me happy today.

I'm gonna look around a bit. I may head back to the non-profit I worked at before.

Ski instructor. Red Bull bicycle stunt rider. Mountain hiking instructor. Timber framing teacher. Dog exerciser. Goatherd. Fencing coach. Child rearing instructor. The possibilities are endless. :thumb:

Clodfobble 12-22-2019 10:04 AM

You could make a series of YouTube videos about how to build a house from scratch, and watch that sweet sweet advertiser money roll in!

Pretty light on income production. When I retire I want to do some of that adaptive skiing seems like a good fit.

Take Benny to Hollywood, get him into TV and movies. That dog has star qualities...charisma...and you can be his manager. Just keep him away from Harvey Weinstein. You'll rake in a hefty percentage until Benny gets spoiled, arrogant, and sues you for emancipation.

xoxoxoBruce 12-22-2019 10:58 AM

It may be a little late to become a Billionaire but anything is possible. You could be the next Col Sanders but you're probably too ethical to make millions.

Gravdigr 12-22-2019 06:56 PM

Full-time hillbiffy.
