Quite right, it's snuck up on me!

2 weeks til my birthday (1 July)
3 weeks until Torchwood: Miracle Day (8 July)
And then just over another two weeks until we go on holiday (25 July)

2 months until Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate (15 August)
Dr Who resumes in September
Panto and GTG in Glasgow in December

How did I suddenly get so much to look forward to?!
I must have been being a good girl

now what?

Really depends on your personality and lifestyle. I got my ipad to play games on the train and it's great for that.

But I also have read a bunch of free books in iBooks.

I've watched a lot of TV episodes on Netflix.

It's a bit big for an ipod, but I've got most of my mp3s on mine. I've set up playlists for parties and plugged it into computer speakers.

Open up the app store and poke around through the popular stuff. You're bound to find something that interests you. And most of the apps are inexpensive.

Undertoad 06-16-2011 02:13 PM

Porn is what!!

I mean, I don't have an iPad. But a friend of mine loves it for porn so much, that he invented a flexible holder for it, so he didn't have to hold it up with one hand.

infinite monkey 06-16-2011 02:33 PM

Your friend? Mmmm-hmmmm. ;)

So your friend should totally patent it! All it takes is one good idea.

Aliantha 06-16-2011 06:03 PM

I put out a call for help a few days ago and the response just overwhelmed me. I am blessed to have a circle of people around me that love and care in the honest way that we all really need.

I have been humbled.

DanaC 06-17-2011 07:13 AM

I just ordered Sundae's birthday present *does a little dance*

Had a sudden fit of competance so sorted it out. Last year i had a great idea for a pressie and then just ended up not doing it. Ha! Not this year. This time it's sorted :)

I FOUND MY WASHTENAW DAIRY VOUCHERS!

Before we went to the Dairy.

(Watch them run out of ice cream or there be a tornado or something.....

Hey, you could call it the ifap! There's already a website. It's safe for work. It IS my work. :D

(These are the things that occur to me as I fall asleep. The Cellar and work. Ha!)

Sundae 06-17-2011 11:41 AM

Dana told me I am getting a birfday present *does a little dance*
Okay I knew yesterday, but I didn't want to post it, it's down to Dani to decide if she wants people to know. Otherwise you might all expect one!

Fathers Day on Sunday. And I'm being treated to lunch out. How does that work?!
I am in their good books tho, I found them a hotel on the internet, when they couldn't remember the name, or the chain, or the exact location. Sadly, it was already booked up, but they have a new hotel in a new location and I've helped them by finding a Wetherspoons nearby :)

infinite monkey 06-17-2011 11:58 AM

Yer birfday isn't on the calendar? I forget what day!?!?

Me: A weekend of nieces. Tonight is the 6 year old's t-ball game and then birthday party. (Turning 6 on Monday...god she's so freaking awesome!!!!!!!!) On Sunday it's Father's Day AND me, mom, sis-in-law, and the three girls (ages 9 almost 10, just turned 8, and soon to be 6) are going to The Lion King.

Mom and I saw it in Columbus. Sis-in-law and brother saw it in London, but this'll be a first for the girls. The two older ones have seen their share of shows, most recently Phantom, but we think this will be a good one for the 6 year old's first show.

Soooooooooo excited.

I think Dad and the guys will enjoy Father's Day hanging out...or playing golf...!

Sundae 06-17-2011 12:13 PM

My birthday SHOULD be on the calendar - I've never been shy about being an old bird.
1st July.
Just don't scam me because you have that, mmm-kay?

I took my ex-husband to see Beauty and the Beast musical. I hated Disney, he loved it. It was probably the highlight of our married life - the production values were so high and the stars so perfect (John Barrowman played the Beast in a later cast). We were both so happy that night.

I am still wary of Disney - I'd prefer to see Warhorse for example - but how wonderful for a child to see such a well produced show as her first.

My first West End show was Oliver! but we were sitting in the Gods and I was terrified of the steps. I adored the music though - some of the songs are still among my favourite songs from shows even today.

Good on your family for starting them early.

infinite monkey 06-17-2011 12:25 PM

I completely agree about Disney. Never been a big fan, but yeah...the production of The Lion King is so amazing, and I've seen a show or two. My mom and I were lucky to be split up but on the aisle seats, me behind her...and the beginning was so amazing she looked at me and we were both teary. (We're suckers like that.) ;)

Seeing well-knowns in a show is cool too. Mom and I saw Camelot with Richard Harris...years ago.

Oh duh, I was looking at June. Sorry chicky-poo (or diz-poo.) :p:

DanaC 06-17-2011 03:43 PM

I think the first proper west end show I ever saw was Les Miserables. When it first started, our English class did a trip to London to see it.

I just googled...that was 25 years ago!

Sundae 06-18-2011 07:32 AM

Made up with someone I should not have had a disagreement with in the first place. He apologised but I think the fault was more mine. Very pleased to have had it all out anyway - he's a decent chap.

AND! Listening to Danny Baker on the internet.
I usually listen to him on Saturday mornings anyway, but when I heard that Mark Gatiss was on it, I decided to delay the pleasure. Mum and Dad were racketing away and I felt it would be better to listen on a medium I could rewind.

So I'm listening to the whole thing and currently gritting my teeth that they're calling him GAT-iss. When he comes in he'll correct them - it's GAY-tiss. Quite easy to remember, given that he is gay. He hates people getting his name wrong... tell me about it.

The caller phoning in at present is a game of HOWZAT! between Dr Who characters and Sherlock Holmes. Typical Danny Baker.

DanaC 06-18-2011 07:36 AM

Ooooh. I might give that a listen later on headphones.

Have you been watching Gatiss's history of Horror? I saw it when it first aired, but have been rewatching it. Wonderful, just wonderful. The last one made me want to watch BoSC again, with commentary!

Next week is where my horror tastes and his diverge. He quite rightly concentrates on his own view of the new wave of horror, but to my mind misses out several of the most important strands of that new wave. Still love his analysis though.

Sundae 06-18-2011 07:55 AM

I watched it originally, didn't realise it was on again.
His whole taste in horror doesn't match mine.
But I'm such a slave of fandom I'll watch anything he recommends, just to understand some of his influences.
I'll check it out online again!

Don't worry, Sandy Possum has already dispatched the BoSC DVD.
It got there surprisingly quickly (as fast as things I've posted to the US) so I've no doubt it will come back as quickly. Then it will be yours :)

DanaC 06-18-2011 08:21 AM

Didn't get the Top Gun motorcycle like I had been planning, just couldn't justify the expense. But that's alright, it deserves to live in San Diego anyway. Instead, I picked up this little 500cc lady over the weekend. 2006 Suzuki GS500f, 3k miles, for $2k

Nice ride!

Mini-plt is almost 10. I dont talk about him much as i dont get to see him that often due to distances and fuel prices. At least thats how it was. Now that i work about 25 minutes from him i will be seeing a whole lot more of him! Im sick with a sore throat so i only went by and visited dor a bit and didnt take him to the track. Promised him we would go next week....

DanaC 06-21-2011 07:24 AM

I'm such a tease. I really wish I could, but it's illegal and unethical.

However, I'll make up one that would be just as good, using different materials.

How about Granite Stoneroll?

Or Flower Beestung?

Or Snakescale Slither?

Postal bonanza today.
Books from Dana, birthday presents from Dana (as yet unopened) and a returned DVD from Sandy Possum with extra prizes and a cool card.

Cadbury's Cherry Ripe barb from Sandy, which I have not heard of before. Very moist and quite delicious. All gone before I even THOUGHT of taking a photo, and that's not like me. Mum helped of course.

wolf 06-22-2011 02:37 PM

I rescued the not-my-cat. The not-my-cat is a cat that comes to hang out on my porch every day. He gets a treat, a petting, and some conversation. When it's hot I make sure there's a bowl of water out for him.

The not-my-cat actually lives down the hall from me, so I know where he comes from.

Last evening I heard his bell, and called for him, but he wasn't coming. Eventually he came up to my porch, lurching around on three legs. He paused that the porch railing and rested his head on the bottom rung for a bit, and then half-flung and half dragged himself over to the water bowl.

It was pretty scary. I went over to him, asking him what was wrong (like I expected an answer. I'm sure you've done the same).

I rubbed his head and tried to flip him over onto his "good side" ... the one with the working paw. He wasn't really happy about it, but let me do it.

I was expecting something awful ... but luckily, didn't get it.

He'd somehow managed to get his front off paw stuck all the way through his collar. I took his collar off and released the paw. He wouldn't move after that, though. I tried to pick him up to carry him to his daddy, but he wasn't having any of it ... started hissing at me. The last thing I wanted was to get bitten so back on the porch he went ... and he stayed there rather than running off, so I knew he was in a bad way.

That's the point at which I went over to his home, and got his owner to take charge of him.

Happy ending ... he was back today looking pretty much his old self, let me pet him and give him treats. I'll have to ask his daddy for details when I see him next.

classicman 06-22-2011 02:51 PM

Just a guess here, but after you got his paw out of the collar, he got a cramp in his arm...
A REALLY BAD ONE.
Similar thing happened to my male cat - hence I now only use safety collars. I'd rather he lose one every 12-18 months instead of having the cat strangle to death.

Closest thing to Hello Kitty I could find for ya.

infinite monkey 06-22-2011 03:06 PM

Approximately 3 more hours then I am off until next Tuesday. Now, if I can just survive the next three hours. I have short-timer's syndrome. :)

DanaC 06-22-2011 04:33 PM

Oh poor kitty! Musthave been really distressing for him :( Glad he's ok.

I am feeling a lot better today than I was last night. I did have a rocky hour or so earlier in the day when my mood plummetted suddenly over something utterly trivial (unbelievably trivial: not being able to make an online payment because the system kept crashing) but am back to sunshine and smiles again now:) Even when I sank earlier it wasn;t as bad as last night, I think because as it started I recognised it and was able to ride it out a bit better.

I've been excited all day because I knew Sundae's packages wuold be arriving :)

Incidentally: I know it's wrong of me but I can't hear/read the name Sandy Possum without snickering a little. It just sounds like a euphemism to me.

Jaydaan 06-22-2011 08:44 PM

I bought an E-bike/scooter!!! I love it.

I do not have a drivers licence, nor do I really want one. I am afraid of driving. This gives me transportation and freedom, without the big car, or for that matter a flimsy bike. (pedal bikes scare me too... I was "wind pushed" under the wheels of a semi when I was a kid, no real damage, just got to pick gravel out of the road rash for over 2 weeks)

I get up to 40KM/hr, and am quite comfy at 25/30KM. It makes my 22 min walk to work take 8 mins, takes my hubby in the car 4-5 mins. No more waiting for my hubby to get off work, or whatever, to take me on small errands. I can do them myself.

I get 60KM on a charge, and it costs me 15-20 cents in electricity to charge it. I bought a second hand one from a dealer for $600. I figure get used to one, make sure I like it and will use it, before I spend the $1200ish for a new one. This one is 3 seasons old, is in great shape and had 650KM on it!

Lola Bunny 06-22-2011 08:55 PM

Dana: I'm glad you're feeling better. :)

Wonderful, Jaydaan. :thumb: Although walking is good for your health, time is money and independence is superb. :D

Clodfobble 06-22-2011 09:44 PM

Wow, that's neat!

The fact that you only work a 22-minute walk away from your house, I mean. I guess the bike's pretty cool too. :) That being said, I'm curious how this bike fares in snowy weather?

Jaydaan 06-22-2011 10:54 PM

Not sure if this will work...
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...1&l=b0a1565511

Jaydaan 06-22-2011 11:03 PM

People do ride these all year, I am not sure if I will. They are rated to -15C, you can get "winter tires" for them too.
Lola, I work in a beer store... hahhaha I lift hundreds of pounds of beer cases and wine cases a day. I still get excercise. This just means I have to get off my lazy butt when I get home and walk my dog more often. :)

Jaydaan 06-22-2011 11:05 PM

This album also shows my new comforter and curtains, as well as the crystal tree I made.

xoxoxoBruce 06-22-2011 11:09 PM

They let you ride that on the road without a license?

Jaydaan 06-22-2011 11:26 PM

Yes, its a battery assisted bike. It had pedals too. I have to follow all bike laws and rules of the road, but yes.
Cool huh?
